In 1964, my dad bought a 55 Oldsmobile Rocket 88 4-dr sedan. It was John Deere green and a beast of a car that he kept around for a couple years. It’s sole purpose was to provide me something to drive so I’d stay away from the family car and his pickup. Thanks for reviving that memory with today’s grouping.

Nice. I had a '55 Plymouth wagon for a while in 1962-63.

Nice pictures. I remember how huge that windshield looked! Where on earth do they find those white-wall tires!

Ok, all you history buffs. When did they quit using fender skirts? None of these cars have them. I bought a '59 Impala - don't remember about it. My '62 Grand Prix did have them.

Oh my, my dream car from age 15 to 70, 55/56 Chevy Bel-Air Hardtop. What a great set, all of them push hard on the memory button

I have been really enjoying your older car series. I was born in 1942, so many of the cars you have presented were my dream cars of my youth. Thanks so much.

Cool series..! I bought a white 1955 Buick Roadmaster convertible in the 1970s for $50. Worked on it all day to get it running. The body was in perfect shape however the suspension and the exhaust were shot and I had to take lug nuts off other wheels to hold one of them on. I had it for two days before getting rid of it. I sure wish that I had it back.

But, uh, Don took his Chevy to the levee.. Saw him in concert right before American Pie hit it large on the air waves. When asked if he ever got tired of singing it he replied, nope it put his kids through college.

This guy?

I photographed him at Davidson College in 1975.

He wore very strange shirts for the time.

That's him. I saw him in the fall of '71. IIRC he was in a buckskin type jacket (but because it *was* a half century I could be mistaken.
