johnlutz if you carefully winnow and ferret through or past some the static that may occasionally occur on UHH you will find diamonds... There are indeed some extremely gifted photographers on UHH albeit they tend to be the exception and possibly not the norm.
If you are only interested in publication quality imagery I would suggest you try the following Photography Sites
1. flickr (probably one of the most respected)
2. Instagram (now the default site for commercial photographers to showcase their "brand" i.e. visual statement)

What one person considers to be a "poor pic", another person may consider that very image to be an artistic masterpiece.

I agree that there are many poor images posted here. So what? If the OPs are happy to post them then why criticize them unless they ask for a critique. My images are far from perfect but I enjoy posting. If you don't like what some people post don't view their posts. It's quite simple. This site does not claim to be a forum for professional photographers.
