Hi folks ....

Well today is something I'd like to see you play around with, ''Tv ''or ''S'' or just plain speed priority.

For those of you who might not beware of this function for whatever reason, please hang around because like in tennis or golf if you always play with those of your level, you will never learn anything.

This setting is a great for low light situations, as in my case sunrises and sunsets, but works pretty much everywhere else, as you'll see.

Rule number one...( I got caught yesterday by it) is to set your ISO at 100. I do mostly nature and landscaping so my ISO is in AWD. I did a three shot series and they all looked pretty much alike because the AWD set me up ay 3200! Yuck.

As for my suns' comings and goings I like to set up before dawn's early light, with a coffee naturally, and start out a 1/4 or less. Thing is with sunrises, it is a 15 minute deal so you have to be ready. Sunsets are different as they drag out all evening and the clouds take over the colours. For a normal sunrise I may click off 50 - 60 shots and although it is fun, once back home fixing them up and all is time consuming.

Before going any further, I'd like some good vibes from you for Annette.....
Hi folks .... br br Well today is something I'd... (show quote)

Good start, Jim. I'll have to do this on purpose and have fun with it. Good tip on setting the ISO off AUTO. I suspect that has been my downfall in the past since you mentioned it. Sometimes it worked (probably not on auto) and sometimes it didn't (probably on auto).

Did I miss something as far as a calender and subject change for tomarrow's challenge (10/23/2012) as the calender I have shows "Fill The Frame" and not Speed.

Page 2: No, photo guy, "Fill the frame" was later switched with "Flashlights".
Now that too seems to have been discarded by the powers that be, in favour of Tv (Ugh ! Canonspeak !)

Yes Annette is in the hospital and roadrunner was kind enough to cover the day but he chose his own subject - gonna let Annette use flashlights at another time since she is really the only one who knows what she really had in mind for a flashlight challenge and if you host, even in an emergency pinch hit situation you get to choose the subject

Walking home from the shopping center, I was transfixed by this priest setting up his little roadside shrine. For India's submerged and marginalised millions, this is the Ultimate Court of Appeal, for only God can help them...no security of life, liberty, employment or property. These are only words in the Constitution, and mean nothing in real life.
On a technical note, I used different zoom settings on the Sony P&S, for each picture. The shutter speeds varied from 1 second to 1/6th of a second. All shots handheld, ISO 100; center-weighted average metering. No flash.

Sorry to hear that about Annette. I wouldn't mind hosting one day but I would have no idea what to pick for subject. I will have to think about that.

HUGS HUGS HUGS

it was such a beautiful morning I got off my duff
and went out to capture it. I shoot in manual most of the time and can set the shutter speed or aperture opening at will and prefer it that way...as I think it gives me more control...but I recently learned that it helps to use a priority mode under some conditions. Ill show you what I mean.
but first the morning. I generally keep my ISO on 200 and only change it when I need more light inside...at which time I also adjust white balance.

at the museum they had this piece which was neon lights...I wanted to make some blur but my camera seemed to be overriding me and wouldnt let me doit until i put it in Shutter Priority

f 10 1/60sec ISO200 manual hand held
f 10 1/60sec ISO200 manual hand held...

iso200 f3.5 1/80
iso200 f3.5 1/80...

shutter priority 1sec f22 iso 1000
shutter priority 1sec f22 iso 1000...

aperture priority iso 1000, 1/4000 sec f3.2

I am very concerned about Annette and hope she has someone with her 24 hours. It can be a real morale booster to have a loved one to share the trauma with. I am sure she will respond positively to the treatment, she has great guts. So many great qualities in her ...

just some random thoughts i thought i might share.

The calendar is mostly a guide for the hosts...we offer it to you as it was requested a long time ago so people could prepare ahead of time...which in many ways defeats the purpose of the CHALLENGE. THE original intent/PURPOSE of the challenge is to shoot daily, grow and improve skills, and share from our world. It is there for your convenience and pleasure. If a host decides to change it, consider it a SPECIAL CHALLENGE....and just go out and shoot something new.

PHOTOGUY...PM me if you are serious about hosting...there are some weekend days available and possibly other days as hosts might need subs...it would be good for you as you continue your recovery. Ill help you come up with your subject...I already have some in mind for you that I think you would like.

Oh and for all of you out there....if you dont want to or cant comment THAT IS FINE...YOU SHOULD NOT FEEL THAT IT IS EXPECTED and you should certainly feel NO PRESSURE to do so...it should only be done if it is your pleasure to do so.
the only time it is expected as far as I am concerned is from the host...otherwise go it as you wish....
some folks never or rarely comment and we still enjoy their posts...some of us do it alot and probably drive you all nuts with our blather....

Have a good day...enjoy the challenges in a way that works for you. But enjoy em now...cause you never know when or who will be here or not.

dif cams have dif identities for the settings.

tv is prob shutter
av is prob aperture

my camera calls it S for shutter
and A for aperture

road i think is using canon
i have olympus
and you have nikon i think...

HE IS TALKING ABOUT using your priority modes either shutter (speed) or aperture (lens opening/fstop).
