I can't get Affinity Photo to open (Win 10 laptop)

I've had Affinity Photo for quite a while, haven't used it much, but it always worked fine when I did.

I updated Affinity Photo to the latest version (1.10.4) and now I can’t open the program. I get the opening screen which stays a few seconds and then disappears. And then there is nothing.

I deleted the Affinity 1.10.4 file and reinstalled the older version from a previously downloaded exe file. The same thing happened.

I have the feeling that this is something simple but I sure don’t know how to fix it. I thought it was an Affinity issue but, if so, why did I have the same problem with the new and old Affinity exe files? Is it a Windows problem?

Very frustrating. Just when I’m ready to start learning Affinity again I can’t open the software! I would very much appreciate any help you can give me.

You should contact Affinity Photo. I have Windows 10 and I have updated at least twice since I bought the editor and never an issue with it.

I can only report that I have had no probs before or after updates. Don't give up - it really is a great app.

I save my S# and download of original purchase on a USB drive. When disaster strikes, UnInstall the program and then reinstall, newer if possible, and you have your S# handy. I have had similar problems, latest was my 2022 Paintshop Pro, it did not install and function. Removal and a reinstall it now works fine.

That is a good tip

If I have such a problem, I make sure to completely clean out the program I am trying to uninstall. After uninstalling, run Registry and Disk cleaning programs. Otherwise, your computer will always know that the program or a newer or older version had been installed previously.

I use two free programs to do this. They are Wise Free Registry Cleaner and Optimize and Wise Free Disk Cleaner and Defragmenter. Here is the download site, but make sure to get the free versions.

Hope this solves your problem. --Richard

I've also updated Affinity several times without a problem. That's why I wonder if it's a computer and not an Affinity problem. I originally posted this in Chit-Chat but Admin moved it to the Main section.

I agree, Delderby, it is a great program. And now that I finally have the time to really dig in and learn it I can't get it to run! I'm optimistic though that I'll get it to work again.

Thanks, Don. I reinstalled an older version and couldn't get it to run either. I'll keep trying!

Thanks, Richard. Interesting; goes along with my suspicion that it might be the computer and not Affinity. My brain and my computer get a little older every day - not a good combination for figuring out what's going on!

I know this is going to sound stupid and it makes no sense. After you open affinity even though it doesn't open click on ctl alt delete and open task manager. Then close task manager. See if affinity opens by itself at that point or I guess the better word is appears. This happened to me and after I opened it a couple times this way it magically straighten itself out. What started it for me was I run 2 monitors. One day I moved affinity to my photo monitor for editing after the update it opened in my reg monitor. I clicked and held the left mouse button and dragged it to my other monitor. After that when I opened it the first or advertisement screen came up when I closed it nothing. I opened task manager to see if it was really running and what else was running that might be an issue. When I closed task manager it magically appeared. I still don't know what went on but it makes no sense but after doing it twice it fixed itself. Jeep me posted. You can pm me if you choose

Thanks Drbob. I tried that. Affinity did not show up on the Task Manager list and didn't start when I closed Task Manager.

UPDATE:
Picking up on a suggestion by profbowman, I installed and ran CCleaner. I previously tried to run an older version of Affinity but it, just like the current version, stopped loading after a brief start. So I tried an even older version and, lo and behold, it loaded! I have no idea if CCleaner had anything to do with that. I'll now try the latest version again. Thank you all very much!

If it is not in task manager it is not running. I would remove all affinity Photo programs and reinstall. They also have a good tech fourm
