Yes it is right across the road from the Tomb of the Unknown.

Beautiful images. I well up with tears also when visiting there, Gettysburg and other similar places. Audie Murphy was WWII. Sgt Alvin York was most decorated in WWI. Audie Murphy went on to be in movies and played himself in the movie 'To Hell and Back' 1955. York was played by Gary Cooper in the movie 'Sergeant York' 1941.

This challenge is almost good timing for me. Just this past Tuesday I mentioned to one of the owners of a local camera store who along with his brother are my main photography mentors that I wanted to do some cemetery photography. I won't have the chance to do them for this challenge but these photos will help me with ideas. In the municipality where I live there are several very small cemeteries, one has only one headstone. There is also a cemetery of "Buffalo Soldiers" about a mile from my house. They were "Colored Troops" of the Civil War. Also, the church I attended many years ago and is a bit of a drive for me now was built in the mid 18th century and has many Revolutionary War vets buried there. I won't make it in time for this challenge but if it's allowed I may post here for those that still have this on their watch list. Probably a couple of weeks from now.

Very nice! I especially like the "atmosphere" in the first and third ones.

Been around some time ago but these are spot on for this Challenge.

''Here lies the body of Elodietremblay''

There is a story here. It should have been Elodie Tremblay but back then many people wrote by sound, those who could write. This is back country in Charlevoix Co., 90 minutes from Québec City

Very interesting and unusual marker. Thanks for posting.

Cemeteries have always fascinated me, especially the older ones. We ran across this one in Southport, North Carolina back in 2011. I'd like to go back someday and learn more. With all respect to the dear departed....

p.2. I too find the old ones the most interesting. Thank you for posting those selections.

A long time favorite. These are mostly colonial era markers from New England and Boston area mostly.
The second to bottom stone is better known as Mother Goose who told stories to children in colonial times.
The bottom stone was the basis for the well known story of the Scarlet Letter... Elizabeth Paine with the eternal A on her marker. Lot of great history in these stones.

I can see why it is a favourite, steve. Also like the history on those who have passed on.
