I subscribe to N-Photo and Digital Camera. Both excellent, and from Britain. I don't understand why the USA can't support even one photo mag of this quality.

Magazines? Not any more. Everything I need is available online. It can be a challenge dealing with subscriptions. Consumer Reports has been messing up my name and address for years. For some reason, they cannot correct their mistakes - no more subscriptions for me.

I subscribe to two photographers magazine. And yes, I purchase the "paper" form, rather than the digital form.

I'm curious to learn what magazines you all like, and perhaps why?

"Photographers Magazine"? Bill much depends on what genre you work in...

I have had a subscription to VOGUE like forever... Albeit I shoot fashion and beauty commercially...
My second choice is ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST since much of my revenue steam comes from assisting many of the commercial architectural shooters in my market.

As for "Photographic" magazines? Way too much marketing hype... sorry I'm only the messenger here...
They are focused on inducing one to purchase kit or travel to "exotic" venues... and have little to offer in what is relevant to what "Clients" actual needs are and the current state of advertising trends.... But for enthusiasts they are likely germane.

Hope this helps Bill or is at least "Food for thought"
All the best on your photographic journey...

I subscribe to Hemmings Muscle Cars, Hemmings Classic Cars and Hemmings Motor News as they all fuel my principal hobby and passion. I'm afraid Photography comes in second!

If you are a CANON user, can I recommend EOS Magazine. http://www.eos-magazine.com/

Available in print, digital or both but NOT available in shops.

I can definitely second that nomination. I got started with the print edition back in my Elan 2e days, let it lapse with the camera. Then, with a Rebel in my hands in 2002, started a digital subscription where you purchase credits then decide one issue at a time whether to purchase or not. Not only is the magazine excellent but they offer a number of quality and reasonably priced printed or e-books covering Canon EOS subject including cameras, lenses, flashes, techniques, and software. Recommended for EOS users.

Outdoor Photography, a British publication (not to be confused with Outdoor Photographer) which in the US is very reasonable in digital form (and ridiculously expensive in print).

Great mix of inspiration and technique, and a good read.

I also subscribe to the British Outdoor Photography magazine.

My favorite is Aperture. More of a journal than a magazine, but it's great and has been for many years.

I quit when Modern Photography went under , leaving Popular Photography as a leader. Just too darn much advertising and no meat. I think they all got hung with there own rope.

In Savannah (GA) the only place with anything like a newstand (magazines and newspapers) is Barnes and Noble. They removed their comfortable chairs where one could peruse magazines before buying b/c homeless people were camping out in them, but there is a coffee shop and a hard bench, so you can spend some time reviewing whatever is available before buying.

I used to love photography magazines but I haven't found one worth reading in the past 10 years. They have turned into shills for the advertisers with very few articles of interest. I remember Popular photography in the old days as a magazine that I would read from cover to cover. It had in depth articles that were educational as well as biographical articles on famous photographers. I stopped all my subscriptions in favor of Youtube and other sources.

The US photo magazines (what's left of them) publish very brief articles to superficially cover modest topics, like what is a polarizer. Just a few paragraphs. The UK magazines are (albeit expensive) sources of somewhat more specific information. I still get Popular Photography, although I'm not sure why I re-subscribe - I blame it on habit. I, too mainly get my information from the web these days.

I look at Shutterbug on line and get Outdoor Photographer in the mailbox, the metal one at the end of my drive. I used to be able to get many more by mail. I have box after box of Old Shutterbugs (remember the oversized issues) in storage. I don't have any of the even older newsprint issues. I have several three ring binders with top loaders full of reports on cameras and lenses, tripods and other gear. If I want information right now, I can get on this infernal contraption and find it, but if I am out in the shed sitting in the rocker and reading a column by Herb Kepler, its like having coffee with an old friend I haven't seen in some time. It seems like the magazines nowadays are more gear reviews as opposed to neighborly chats with folks like Herb Kepler, or how to get into the "zone" with DeWitt Jones in his Basic Jones columns. I subscribed to both Modern and Popular Photography, and also really enjoyed Peterson's Photographic which seemed to me to be more for the regular camera toter as opposed to the more upscale practioner.
