I am trying to pick the best signature to place on my work and I need some help. I will send alone an example, the signature is mine. Should I keep the signature, or have one made for me?
I use both types, depending upon what's being done with the image.
My "proofs" are watermarked with something like your first example. I post those small images (no larger than 700 or 800 pixels on long side) online for people to see. They often get "taken" by folks who post them on Facebook, Instagram, etc. Rather than fighting with potential customers about "misuse" of my images, I use something like your first example as a watermark that will act as an advertisement.
My prints and finished images are imprinted with a "signature", similar to your second. However, yours looks like your actual signature. I would encourage you NOT to use that online, where anyone can potentially download and might misuse it in some way. Instead make a signature that's more legible using some font that "looks" like a signature. That's what I've done.... I don't like having my legal signature anywhere online.
