Actually, that is correct. Keystone was meant to move crude oil from Canadian oil fields to ports where the oil would be shipped to other countries. Very little or no oil was being sent to US refineries. In addition, once the pipeline was completed, there would be less than 1,000 American workers to maintain it. The environmental studies showed that this pipeline would be a disaster for migrating birds and animals, cut through Native American sacred lands, would always have the potential for spills and other environmental catastrophes. Think about the pipeline from the offshore drilling rig in California which was ruptured allegedly by a dragging anchor from one of the container ships waiting entry into the Port of Los Angeles. Some California beaches were damaged, as well as marine wildlife and birds.
