Gene, I know that diffraction starts to raise its ugly head around f8 for 4/3rds sensors. At approximately what f-stop does diffraction start for your 1" sensor in your Sony RX10 mkIV? Does it tend to start that much earlier in the 1/2.3" sensors?

F8 seems to be the smallest aperture that won't ruin most images. Subjects with lots of fine texture viewed up close will reveal a lot of softness at F8 and smaller. I think you can get away with F11 on a 4/3. However, large prints at greater distances are less of an issue, since human eyesight isn't able to see that fine detail. This is why Apple can get away with printing billboards with images shot with their iPhones and they look amazing - at a distance.

That is similar to what Bill at Burkphoto has stated. 3mp to 5mp, very low resolution, looks great on a billboard from the distance of a road away.

From my RX10, these were shot in “P” mode , but they can also be done in “s” mode. It usually takes several shots at different shutter speeds . Moving water is a bit unpredictable. Sometimes a 1/200 is slow enough an other times 5 sec. it all depends on how fast the water is moving and the lighting. Just shoot several shots at different shutter speeds. Good Luck

ISO 100, F9, 1/5 sec
