Update. I reinstalled ACR to latest version, again deleted the plist from the Library>Preferences>com.adobe.Photoshop.plist and restarted Photoshop. At first, it loaded a CR3 file and saved as a TIFF back to LR. I closed out both LR and PS and again edited a LR RAW file with Photoshop, and low and behold, everything now works as it should. I got the dialogue box to Edit a Copy with LR adjustments and then a TIFF file opened in Photoshop.
Everything is now back to normal and I won't lose anymore sleep. Thanks for all comments.

When this happens, a) what does PS return to LR? A TIF? b) Are the edits you made in LR before sending the photo to PS still apparent in the returned photo?

A) It returned a TIF, but the file name was changed to 1.TIF rather than sending it back with the original file name with TIFF added as the suffix. It also did not place the edited image next to the original image, but at the end of the entire downloaded images.
B) LR edits remained intact.

Now that it is working properly again it behaves correctly, with edited TIFF images placed next to the original CR3 image.

Glad you resolved it and thanks for posting about the issue, that will help someone else if they have that problem.

[quote=scubadoc]I did, and I mentioned it in my above posts. They asked me to reinstall plists, uninstall and reinstall both programs. I did and it didn't make a difference.[/quo

I hope someone has an answer to this vexing problem. I am using latest cloud versions of PS and LR Classic. M1 Mac Mini, shooting Raw on a Canon R5. In the past, when I send a LR CR3 Raw image to Photoshop I get the usual dialogue asking me if I want to edit a copy with LR adujustments and it sends the image to PS as a Tiff image. This no longer happens. It is just sending a copy of the Raw image to Photoshop. I’ve reinstalled all the preference files, uninstalled and reinstalled both LR and PS and it still remains the same. If I use another program for editing, say Topaz DeNoise or Sharpen, LR works correctly, sending a Tiff copy with LR adjustments. This has been going on for several weeks now, and I am beginning to think it is a bug in the latest version of LR. Any ideas, anyone else having the same experience.

Curious: Do your sidecar files of instructions follow the raw files? If they do, opening the file in Photoshop should display it the same way you see it in Lightroom Classic. Then your Ps changes should show up in LrC on the return. I’m asking hypothetically with the idea that this might be a new feature and not a bug…

t works that way on my Mac also, it started doing that a week or so ago also. But once I do edits in PS I save it as a tiff or JPG, and my original edited RAW file is still there.
I don't see it as a problem.

No Problem. My reply to SuperflyTNT may not have been very clear. He asked me if I contacted Adobe Support. My answer was "First thing I did:" I then went on to mention what they asked me to do.

you did good but some folks are kinda self-absorbed and just never seem to get the message.

The OP admitted his message wasn't clear.
