Have a Nikon D500
When is it time to upgrade will it still has value and when up grade to what?
or Wate a will and see what come out?

If you can't decide and have to ask strangers when to upgrade, you don't need to upgrade.
A new camera loses value faster than an old one. If you get an extra $10 by selling an old camera today instead of tomorrow, your new camera will lose $20 in that same time.

As long as you don't bust your budget upgrade whenever you feel like. Do you ask strangers who really know nothing about you when you should buy a new car, or anything else, for that matter? If strangers actually do determine your spending then let me help: Upgrade right now and you won't have to ask the question again. For now, anyway.

Are you still getting images that please you?
Is there anything about the camera that is not working properly?
I still use my Nikon D3s purchased in 2010. And I can still answer yes to the above.
I also still own my D500 and love it, love it, love it.
Below is an image taken this year with my 12 year old D3s. Do you think I need a new camera?

The best time to upgrade an apex camera like the Nikon D500 is within a month of it breaking, preferably the weeks before rather than afterward. As you probably don't know when the camera is going to die, you can at least check the shutter count and justify using it completely through the 200,000 expected shutterlife. There won't be anymore Nikon DSLRs, so put your GAS away on changing to another cropped DSLR.

Really? "There won't be anymore Nikon DSLRs, so put your GAS away on changing to another cropped DSLR."
I did not know you worked for Nikon. So tell me, when will the Nikon Z9 be available?

But, it's a Nikon D500. How could that be possible? Predicting the day the shutter dies seems the more likely future event.

To your point, I've got a friend with a 5DM3 that has close to 400,000 actuations on it and it is still working just fine.

I know a guy with a pair of 5DIIIs, each now reporting 120,000+ around 8-years. He posts pretty regularly to UHH with acceptable results ....

If I were him, I would have an R5, his 5d3 will fail much sooner than latter. And probably in the middle of an important shoot. Murphy's law

ThE D500 is still a great camera, and still better than latest mirrorless offerings for willdlife in many respects. I actually just bought a second D500 for that purpose.

Your other “upgrade” choices in the Nikon world are not only a new technology (mirrorless) but also a new-to-you format (FullFrame vs cropped on the D500). Mirrorless cameras provide some sensational image-making tools, but you need to be aware of and ready for a transition. Your lens inventory will probably need to be upgraded, which will add to expense.

Bottom line, my advice is to spend a lot more time reflecting on what you need your camera to do for you, and in the meantime continue using the fine piece of technology that you already own.

You have not tried the R5 and R6 and R3 with the best in class eye AF for animals and birds as well as tracking in perfect focus at 20fps (If desired) I guess and then doing the same with those same subjects in making videos of them with the same amazing results.

Buying and selling decisions are obedient to the market's "supply and demand" which will drive the price that someone will pay for your camera based on how many there are available in comparable condition and price-point.

Fortunes are made...and lost due to the timing of the market. The 'seller' has an advantage when there is a scarcity of the item and it is still desirable to own. The 'buyer' has the advantage when the market is saturated with the item and prices are lower to move them.

The Nikon D500 is still a desirable action and wildlife camera so the time may be right for getting a fair market price for it while the price for a mirrorless camera of comparable performance is still quite expensive.

I second this recommendation. I have and use my D500 all the time. It more than meets my need and works with all of my lenses that I usually use on it--70-200mm to 500mm.

In this day and age, replacing a camera may mean a lot more than just the camera if you decide to buy a mirrorless camera. Then it might be a camera lenses switch.

I am in no hurry to ditch what works well for me just to have the "latest".

Start where you are. Buy equipment. Admire other's equipment. Buy more equipment. Sell equipment. Find a new hobby.
