With 20-20 hindsight I'll raise you one. I shoulda bought one of his books before I made the "buy" decision for any camera in the past.

Amen. I do buy his books to help with a purchase decision ... if the book is still in print ! His out of print books get rather expensive ... affirming the value they represent to a user.
Most recent case is my Z6 book. IIRC I kept it over a year, and was going to sell it cuz the Z6 would be of very limited usefulness for me. Then I discovered another special use for the Z6, so it was looking semi-useful. Then the price crashed to a level thaz OK for semi-useful.
So, initially the book warned me that a Z6 wouldn’t be worth $1800 for me. That info cost $45 in book form. A real bargain.
A year later when Nikon was selling refurbs for $1000, that seemed about right for my use, plus I already had the book on hand, so OK ... Bingo !
I’ll spare you any more similar tales, and just repeat that it makes sense to buy the book *before* you buy the camera. You win either way, with or without actually buying the camera.
