My wife and I took a similar cruise starting in Amsterdam 3 years ago. I used for the entire trip a full-frame Sony 7m3 and a 24-105 f4 lens. There were times when I would have enjoyed a longer lens, but I was satisfied with my photographic experience. I had fun and got lots of very good photos.

My concern at the time was to not overburden myself with too much equipment. (I did have a Sony RX10 mark 2 as a backup, which I never used.

Enjoy what I know will be a fabulous trip!!!

If all pans out we are planning to go on a River cruise in April from Amsterdam to Basel. I have a Canon 80D with 2 kit lenses. 18-55 and 55-250. I also have a 50 mm a 10-22 and big 18-400. Don’t want to take the 400, too heavy. If you were to take one or two of the lenses above which would it be? 2nd question. If none of the above are decent, What would you buy if you had to take just one travel lens

I did that cruise from Basel to Amsterdam and only took my Canon 24-105 on my 5D MK4. Lightweight and pretty much got everything I needed. I did stitch together one or two panoramics in PS, zoomed in on a few photos in post but was very happy overall and not burdened by equipment.

We took a similar Cruise from Amsterdam just before the pandemic. Brought only my iPhone XS and a Lumix ZS 60 bridge camera. Doubt you will need any more versatility than that on this kind of cruise. Most sight seeing will be from the shore excursions, not from a huge distance on the boat.

We spent a month in Australia 6 months earlier and I found that as time went on I used the Lumix more and my Nikon with heavier lenses less as the time went on. So much easier just getting around without the extra “baggage”, if you pardon the sacrilege.

I actually have a very capable bridge camera specifically for trips like this. It has a 24 - 1200 optical lens, which saves on weight, space and change outs. It's worked perfectly for me for many trips. It's not for everyone, but just an idea to throw out there.

Those are great shots. Thanks for posting. I’m probably taking the 18-400. And I’m going to upgrade my cell. Hoping there won’t be too many restrictions on the cruise in April
