I've been reading the online Washington Post for years. That has come to an end. Prime members now get thirty days free, one month for $3.99, and then $9.99 a month.
They have a right to charge for their content. It has always been that way with newspapers and magazines. Advertising revenue isn't enough to keep them afloat. They have to pay the salaries of everyone working for them and the cost of delivering the paper copies to people who want to receive their paper that way and to any place where you can buy the paper copy. If you want to read it, they're entitled to some money for you.
Having said that, I think that online editions of newspapers are a much better bargain than the paper copies. I've had the Sacramento Bee delivered to my house for many years. I stopped it with the last renewal and went to their online edition for less than half the price and more than twice the content. My wife likes to work some of the puzzles in the paper. I print them out for her every day for just pennies.
hope they keep the crossword free
