Just because you're aware of what the 'AF' designation means doesn't mean everyone does. You could have provided the information in a friendly manner. Should 'leftj' own a D5000, then yes, it IS a manual focus lens.

I don't know if he owns a D3000 or D5000 series camera or any of the earlier Nikon cropped bodies without a focus motor, but I do know that he owns a D850 as he has posted that he does.

If he does own one of the mentioned Nikon bodies he should have asked, "will it work with a Dxxx?" Asking "is it manual" would not have been sufficient.

Additionally, this poster is a particularly nasty individual. When he asks a question that is answered by anyone other than the original poster his response is usually, "I didn't ask you." I've seen that more than once.

My original point was, and still is, that quite often his question can be made moot by just looking at the pictures provided.

If you don't like Push/Pull lenses stop reading now. The last time I used this lens was on an F5 during a wedding shoot back in the 1990's. I could never bring myself to sell it in case I ever needed a long lens. It was pristine when I last used it and it is pristine today. It's tight and doesn't slip. Glass is perfectly clear and free of any defects as is the body. Oh yes, it's HEAVY!
As Ken Rockwell says: "This 80-200 is about as sharp as, and focuses 80% as fast as the 70-200/2.8 VR II, which takes the same pictures but costs twice as much."
First I'll take it in the forum or PM gets it.
Thanks for looking,
Gene

Though there was a small glitch in communications, and then I was away for a few days, I picked up the lens at the Post Office this morning, 9/25. It had been shipped second day USPS, and was very well packed. The appearance of the lens was as new. I have bought quite a few used lenses, but this is probably the nicest. The few test shots I had time to take were sharp, the Autofocus fast. It operates differently than any of my other Nikon lenses, so I will need to spend some time with a downloaded PDF of instructions before I am confident that I understand it. If the seller (n4jee) were to post something of interest that I could afford, I would not hesitate to buy.
