If you don't like Push/Pull lenses stop reading now. The last time I used this lens was on an F5 during a wedding shoot back in the 1990's. I could never bring myself to sell it in case I ever needed a long lens. It was pristine when I last used it and it is pristine today. It's tight and doesn't slip. Glass is perfectly clear and free of any defects as is the body. Oh yes, it's HEAVY!
As Ken Rockwell says: "This 80-200 is about as sharp as, and focuses 80% as fast as the 70-200/2.8 VR II, which takes the same pictures but costs twice as much."
First I'll take it in the forum or PM gets it.
Thanks for looking,
Gene

I have the two-ring version of this lens. It uses the 'screwdriver' from the body to focus. It's an 'AF' lens, so is NOT compatible (manual focus only) with D3000, D3100, D3200, D3300, D3400, D5000, D5100, D5200, D5300, D5500, D5600, D40/D40X, D60. For full auto-focus, your camera body must provide the 'drive' to the lens for focusing; there is no motor in the lens itself for the autofocus.

A quick look at the first picture clearly reveals "AF Nikkor" printed on the lens.

Often when your question is "is that an FX lens?" the pics show DX printed on the lens.

Didn’t ask you jerkwad. Your second statement is an outright lie.

Done deal, Mine! It will work on all of my digital Nikons and a couple of the late film models. I have the original from film days, and found it to be a useful range of focal lengths. I look forward to trying it out. Could make a nice short kit, 24-85, fast 50, 80-200 with any of the Digitals or even F5.

That's your typical response when someone here points out the obvious answer that you missed. Most people here are happy to share knowledge.

You, on the other hand, prefer to attack the ones who do.

And, for the record, my 2nd statement was absolutely true.

Cite the instance. You were not being helpful. You were being critical. There is a difference.

Silly to argue with fools - they are always right.

What is your point? It is an "AF" lens, as I noted in a reply above. That means it will auto focus with any camera body that has the 'screwdriver' autofocus for driving the lens. There is no motor in the lens for focusing. Not everyone knows what the various Nikon designations mean.

It is an FX lens, although I don't think it is noted anywhere on the lens body. I'm at work right now, or I'd take a look at mine.

What is your point? It is an "AF" lens, ... (show quote)

I am well aware that the lens is both an AF lens (printed right on the lens) and an FX lens. If it were a DX lens Nikon would print DX right on the lens.

I was responding to the poster who asked if it were manual and told him his answer was in the first picture where you can see the AF Nikkor printed right on the lens. I also pointed out that he also often asks if a lens is FX or DX when that answer is also usually right on the lens...nothing more.

There is no need to look for FX on the lens body as you won't find it. Nikon labels all of their DX lenses with DX. If you don't see DX on a Nikon lens...it is an FX lens. It's that simple. The questioner is either unaware of that or just doesn't care to look at the pictures.

I am also fully aware of the "screwdriver" type lens as I own a number of AF-D lenses with the same mechanism requiring a motor in the camera body for AF operation.
