Northern Flicker vs.A Bandtail Pigeon...
I had an uncommon though not a rare bird at my sunflower feeders today and the old Boss of the feeders a Northern Flicker tried to scare away the Bandtail Pigeon...Nope! Not happening! Meet the NEW Big Boss!
Not really an “action”sequence, because the pigeon didn’t do anything, but these are gorgeous shots of the flicker. Congratulations.

That is what is so great about this conflict! The Pigeon's reaction WAS to do nothing! He/she totally ignored the Flicker & kept eating! LOL...sometimes the funniest & best response is to do nothing! Glad you liked the Flicker pics! Thanks for commenting...I appreciate it.

Nice set, thanks.
Thanks Bultaco! It was a quick grab through my double paned kitchen window so could be better...I just loved the action-no reaction! Walt

Oh, well, guess Flick will have to learn to share now that he has run into a real heavy weight.
I have them here year around and when the ones up where you are migrate south our population goes up. 4-10 in the yard at once is not unusual and I once counted 20.
The only problems with the BTPs in my yard was a feud between one of them and my little Jack Russell back in 2019. Tara was curled up in the yard with birds feeding all around her when a squirrel came over the fence and Tara actually ran over and stepped on one of the Band tails going after the squirrel. The pigeons seemed a bit wary of Tara for several months. I think he told all his friends about getting stepped on.
Why thanks Joe! I love the colorful flickers ever since I saw my first ones on the Calif almond orchards! I was about 3-4 maybe at mu grandpa’s...i’ll Never forget seeing big flocks of them all around me out in the orchard!

That is a funny story! Glad you didn’t have a big Hawk after your Jack Russel! I have seen BTP’s in the woods before up here in Oregon. Never hunted them...and now they are too pretty to shooting! PS...always glad to share birds! Take care, Walt

Thank you Mike! I loved seeing this action even if it was through the viewfinder. Walt
