There’s freedom and peace of mind in that

Yea, things have a tendency to move a bit faster without one.
I have a tripod and a stick, I mean monopod.
My wife complains that I never use the monopod she bought me. Maybe I'll carry it this trip to Acadia?
She can use the "walking stick" and I'll carry the tripod. We'll see.

I’m glad my twins left that habit behind when they got out of high school.

When are you heading to Acadia? Moosehead Lake and Wells are on our plan

We have so many talented people here, that I'm sure this would be an easy job for someone. We need a lens chart.

Let's say I'm going on a cruise. What lens should I bring? What's the best lens for taking pictures of bugs? Jewelry? Stars? Cars? Pens? Shoes? Grandchildren? Parents? Portraits? You get the idea.

We get so many questions about what lens to use in specific situations that having a large - very large - chart listing lenses and uses would be a real benefit for our members.

No, I'm not being serious, still, the questions continue.

Your last line is your most pragmatic.
Natcherly, such a chart will never work here, even when someone attempts to provide one.

Any user *SHOULD* be able to easily produce their own chart customized for their own needs. A user who cannot do that will only reap confusion from any chart (no matter how clear and well crafted). If you can’t create your own chart then how can you understand someone else’s ?

Photographers have a tendency to be very insecure people, in constant worry of not having the right camera, the right lenses, best filters, enough pixels, the latest upgrade, a powerful enough computer, a strong enough tripod, clean enough sensor, the proper number of image backups, etc. - the list of worries goes on and on. To be frank, I have not encountered this level of worry with any other hobby/profession. Not every photographer is like this, but many most definitely are!

Yep! Look through the finder and SEE.

The tools should be extensions of your mind.

I’m 66. I learned that lesson at age 13. It’s guided my purchases ever since.

So very true.

Glad I'm not one!

Kinda like hand tools. But it depends on the application (requirement), the end result.

Various lenses will yield different results. I select the lens based on the results I want.

Go into a camera shop and ask for a lens to shoot children.
They'll be real glad to sell you one for infants, one for youngsters, and one for teenagers.
After one eyebrow goes up.

So like hand tools what the channel lock is use for? There should be no chart as each person would use different lenses for each situation.

Exactly.
Depending on what result they want for that situation.

LOL! Boy is that true. When I was a kid it was almost like buying a model T... you got one color choice, black.

Black and white Keds or Red Ball Jets. Had to last a year! Had two pairs of shoes. One for church and social events, the other for school/play.

Jerry, now that's funny. Sorryfully true, but still funny. But you know what? I have on my laptop a database (chart) that has my cameras and lenses, and all the cameras and lenses I have ever had an interest. It includes all the specifications and current prices. All the information came from the manufacturer's web site. Still doesn't tell me what lens to take or use. But it does help me decide what to buy.

Now let's say someone does build your chart. Those asking will still ask for someone to tell them, because that's easier than even reading the chart. They don't want to do the research, and they haven't used what they have enough to know.

Just my 2¢, and a chuckle.

Oh ya, and to the other guy that ask what channel locks are for. I have told people who thought they were going to help me that if they use my screwdriver for a chisel or prybar, expect whatever metal object is in my hand to find it's way upside their head. Watch how fast tools get gently laid down and walked away from.

We have a saying in Oz (might be worldwide - don't know not having been worldwide)

BEEN THERE, DONE THAT, GOT THE T SHIRT, GOT THE STUBBY HOLDER --- not impressed

LOL! Seemingly everyday, there is ‘that’ question. 👍😁👍
