All this said, yes phones are certainly very good for the average person who wants to take snap shots whereever they go and who may on occasion get one that is a wall hanger (so long as they only size it for a desk top print).

I think you can print a fairly large print with a 12 MP photo? I don't print much, almost never now, but when I did, I could do pretty good at 250ppi. I never printed a cell photo larger than 8x10, but would not hesitate to do a 16x20 with a 4000x3000 photo. A 300ppi 16x20 calls for 4800x6000 and even my 24mp DSLR only does 4000x6000 so I know that's a bit of overkill.

I know for sure 1920x1080 is all that's needed for all my digital displays, from small cell phone to 55" HD TV.
