One correct answer is 9x3=27 + $3 that each man got back = 30 OR 9x3 = 27 - 2 the bellhop has =25 the manager's share. The key here is that the arithmetic must mimic the words. Adding 2 to 27 does not do that.

We all have the "I can;t do that" syndrome
There are three kinds of mathematician, those who can add and those who can't. It takes the former to solve this type of question. 30-5+3=28.
It's like my physics teacher when we were working on chemistry. For extra points he asked what is BaNaNa?

Three men paid $10.00 each to stay at a hotel. After they left the manager decided he overcharged them and gave $5.00 to the bell hop to return to the men. The bell hop pocketed $2.00 and returned $1.00 to each man. Now 9 times 3 is 27; the bellhop has $2.00. Where is the other dollar?
Hild on...I'm counting out my toothpicks.
Then my chemistry asked what's H2O4 ?

The answer is simple. The two sides of the equation have to add up to the same number. The men each paid $9 (times 3 is $27). The inn keeper ($30-5=$25)and the bell hop ($2) add up to 27. No missing money.

Glad you figured that out👍😳
Another observation. You cannot add $2(bellhop) to the $27 because it is already in the $27 (Manager $25 bellhop $2) You can, however subtract the $2 leaving $25.
Think about it as a debt each man paid ten dollars originally 3x -10 = -$30.00 the clerk gave the bellboy $5.00 to return. Thirty dollars in the hole plus five dollars returned equals a debt of $25.00 which is where the three men should be except that the bellboy kept $2.00 of their five or 67 cents from two of the mend 66 cents from one of them. Two of the men paid $8.33 plus the .67cents the thieving bellboy stole. The third guy paid $8.34 plus .66 cents lifted by the bellboy. This adds up to the $27.00. The $2.00 the bellboy pilfered moves the debt toward $25 not toward $27. If you were $27.00 in the hole and found a two dollar bill would you be $29. down or $25.00.

They are all old because they spend their time IMMORTALIZING things with their hobby/job/obsession. The creative mind keeps going. All the moving around, bending, lifting, focusing and watching for your subjects keeps the body in great shape.
Most of us use real cameras, as well as cell phone cameras, and that equipment keeps us sharp. I'm glad I have a place to go where there are like minded people to mix with.
Good luck on your quest. Stay young!!!
