NO signature required. They post that on every item I have ever gotten from B&H. $1500.00 lenses just left on my front stoop. Use the Fed-Ex app to find out when item was delivered. Unless you live in a high crime area there shouldn't be a problem.

I had Fedex leave a package right behind the rear wheel of my car. I didn't know it had been delivered. It was pure luck that I saw it before I got into the car and backed out of the garage. As far as I can tell, UPS is better than others and I don't have too much good to say about the USPS for delivering anything in any manner.

I didn't have much problem with FedEx but I do think FedEx is less expensive than UPS and more vendors use FedEx than UPS.

Where I live, UPS wins hands down for customer service and reliability. The delivery window is tighter, and most of the time I can track the delivery truck's progress on a live map. I have two regular drivers who do 90% of the deliveries. FedEx is OK, FedEx Home Delivery is at the bottom. A myriad of drivers.

A possible reason why, from an actual driver and a customer:

"Being a retiree of UPS I would say UPS…I have a decent pension, life time medical and was able to retire at 52. I worked longer and harder days for 30 years but when you’re younger the body gets used to 11–12 hour days. The union in my opinion was there to write our contracts and to protect a majority of the management disputes. Paying your union dues is like paying for attorney representation when it comes to court except you pay a little each month instead of one big lump sum. FedEx has no pension, no union to represent the employees….sorry I don’t know what they have for medical. They do have cooler shorts and pants in my opinion but that’s about it."

"Being the employee that deals with drivers, in my 10+ years, I would say UPS drivers are happier with pay and benefits. Seems to have more overtime though, pro or con I'm not sure.

This is in southern California, where lots of the FedEx drivers work for subcontractors rather than FedEx directly. Might be different elsewhere. I've never worked for either company."

I don't doubt it. But FedEx Express is, as I understand it, different from the two ground services, and all of their past practices may have been different. Today though a good number of FedEx drivers are contract workers, not company employees.

FedEx is organized into separate subsidiaries — FedEx Services, FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, and FedEx Freight. Each of these companies has its own independent operations. I've never had any issue with FedEx Express on the occasions I've used that premium service.

Here’s what I don’t like about my recent transaction with B&H. On 8/18 I ordered the Sony RX10IV and the online purchase when smoothly. At the time of purchase I was provided with a delivery date of Monday, 8/23. That was fine I wasn’t in a hurry. The following day, 8/19 I received an email from B&H stating they were using “expedited” shipping and I would get the camera on Saturday, 8/21—great. But the email also said that a signature would be required. I didn’t like the idea of having to stay home all day so I began trying to see if I could narrow down the delivery time; not possible. All day Saturday, until around 4:00pm, the status showed “in transit at Orlando.” Then it when to “arrived Orlando 11:52am.” Well is was well, 4pm was it still coming?

Around 5pm I checked and it said the package had been delayed and would be delivered Sunday 8/22 before evening. Just wonderful, now I’m married to the house for a second day. Still no window of delivery time, just Sunday 8/22.

B&H has a great reputation and I have purchased from them before without issue. I didn’t check their competition on this order but I will next time. I don’t know why they use Fedex when it’s common knowledge their service is no where near as reliable as USPS or UPS, at least here in the Tampa/St. Pete/Clearwater area. And why the required signature? I have purchased items more expensive than this one from other vendors and no signature was required.

One last mention about Fedex. Several days ago my wife ordered air pods online and the seller selected Fedex as the delivery service. Immediately she got an email saying they would be delivered on 8/17. Late on 8/17 an email changed the delivery day to the next day. They were delivered on 8/18 in the evening, more than 24 hours after the initial delivery date/time. It took Fedex 8 days to get these from Tennessee to Tampa. But no signature was required so we were not MARRIED to the house. It took Fedex 5 days to get my camera from NJ to Tampa. Both my wife and I have agreed that from here on we will pretty much purchase from companies that DO NOT USE Fedex.

Final note: The camera arrived at 12:30pm 8/22. The driver rang the door bell and then departed. No signature was requested.

I had a similar experience earlier this year with B&H/Fedex. After two rescheduled deliveries and stuck at home for two days I asked Fedex to redirect the shipment to one of their satellite locations. That added more rescheduled deliveries and ultimately it was ten days before I received my lens. I love B&H and my Payboo card but I can not deal with Fedex. If B&H can not provide an alternative the next time around, Adorama or Amazon here I come.

I was speaking to a patient who drives for FEDEX a few months back. He explained that they get paid way less than UPS drivers and have no benefits. They are all trying to get on at UPS he told me. So...maybe less motivated to do a good job.

EVERYTHING we receive via FEDUP looks as though it has been routed through a war zone. Torn up boxes, opened and retaped, items missing, beat up/banged around/squashed, etc. They (the drivers) that seem to care are few and far between, one in particular apologizes to me each time he has to bring me a beat up package. I tell each and every seller about this, but the folks who "let" the shipping contracts must not ever order anything shipped via their choice of shipper....they only go for the "low bidder". All we can do is complain/return each and every time, and warn the seller up front....hope for the best. They "FEDUP", do make every other shipper look like PRO's.

FedEx left a TV for us at another house, luckily the owner was honest and finished the delivery!

As a person who used to ship my products all over the country, I found Fedex to be far more reliable than UPS. UPS kept me waiting for hours in an Arizona sandstorm, and then never showed up. I had to drag thousands of pounds of candles and pottery back into my warehouse alone, as it was about 7PM when they still had not shown up. My back still aches to this day, 14 years later. So you will not get me to say anything nice about UPS!

I don't like either UPS or Fedex, but what choice do I have? However, I don't blame the seller for the problems of the carriers.

Not much sympathy here. FedEx, UPS, USPS, all about the same in Juneau, Alaska. No next day and two day means four day minimum. I grew tired of hoping my package would be here tomorrow so I changed the way I look at shipping. Now, no matter the shipper, I just expect it in two weeks. I never hope or dream of a day less than that. Stress gone and I almost always get my stuff 'early'. (eight, nine, ten days) I think that when people stress about their package not arriving in two or three days or getting delayed a few days for some reason, that they should readjust their priorities a little bit and just relax.

The driver has a lot to do with it. We get FedEx delivery every week right on time. UPS does a good job as well but USPS not so good. We are still missing a check we sent to an account. You can always find something wrong with a service. Just glad I’m not doing what they do every day and deal with the public.

When I know I might not be around for delivery, I contact UPS or FedEx & have them hold the package at the warehouse where it can be picked up. Takes me about 15 minutes one way. Usually in & out in under 5 minutes. Peace of mind & freedom of the day to do what I wish. Well worth the drive.

At my Massachusetts home, I often have deliveries made to the local pickup for UPS or FedEx; works like a charm. Much better than being housebound. Anything that keeps a delivery away from the USP(non)S is a big plus for me.

Sometimes UPS hands off packages to USPS. It does not create any problems because when UPS delivers the packages to our post office the UPS driver and my mail carrier have coffee together before they start their routes.
