Here's a very sad situation where an Indian woman accidentally killed herself with a shotgun while taking a selfie:

I have a good friend just four houses away that belongs to this organization. He has a brace of chrome plated, pearl handled peace makers. His holster is across the front of his leg. He can draw, shoot the target and holster and it's all a blur. I tried talking him into letting me take some pictures of him or just the draw and he laughed, shook his head and walked away. Those revolvers are really good looking weapons and are well taken care of. Fun Sport

If you want an interesting photographic challenge, try to photograph a Nickle plated Colt. Tricky!

I just cannot bring myself to accept or even see how your post has anything to do with anything this thread has offered. I think you are in extremely poor taste to offer this post in any thread. There is no correlation whatsoever.

Frenchy brought up the death of Jon Erik Hexum and I reacted because I recently read about the Indian woman in a gun-related article. And this post is also gun related. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Even as a kid my mother would not except my explanation of "Well, Frenchy did it". This is NOT a thread about guns any more than it's a thread about balloons. I invited anyone who knows something about the sport to add details. I did this so we all could learn something about the sport and I was hoping it would help keep the thread on the rails.

I don't have time to look him up but as I recall he is the actor who put a 44 Magnum loaded with blanks up to his head and pulled the trigger. Nobody will have any idea what the hell went through his mind but of course it was nothing after the burned powder and wadding for blanks went into his brain at, I am guessing maybe 1600 fps or more. Not very smart.

I don't remember who that was either. But it's an only once in a lifetime thing. You would think they would know better. But stupid is stupid

Really nice action shots. I used to shoot fast draw when I was much younger. 38 special cases with primer pockets reamed out to accept Large Rifle Primers. I build a jig so I could force 50 rounds through a block of paraffin wax to make the bullets. Could always tell fast draw practitioners by their wax lined holsters, wax smeared chaps and waxy boot.

Nice type of event to get action shots. For those not familiar with this sport ... The riders move through a series of balloons as fast as they can. They must shoot the balloons in a particular order and their ride is timed. Think of Barrel Racing ... with guns! No they're not shooting bullets, it's some sort of wadding. Anyone familiar with this sport is welcome to add more details. One more point, those horses are magnificently trained! They have gunshots going off right along side of their heads and show no reaction. They are wearing some sort of noise protection, but still ...

That Cowboy Shooting is fun to watch. I shot some portraits of the shooters in their costumes several years ago. Jon Exum shot himself with only a blank round. The the force of the propellant sent the wad went into his brain. His family donated his organs to waiting transplant patients.

I’ve been around horses for 35 years and have never seen this before. Well trained indeed. Great series. Glad to hear the horses have ear protection. Nice series.

I've been involved in Cowboy Action Shooting for over 20 years now. It's great fun for the entire family; check here for more details: https://www.sassnet.com/
The western clothing requirements have been relaxed, but a complete rig is two single-action revolvers, lever action rifle and shotgun (double barrel or pump).
The Single-Action Shooting Society is the main organization, and the local clubs welcome newcomers. Many shooters will also let you try shooting their guns down range.

Great sport!! I have been doing it in Virginia for 27 years now. I am afraid it is in trouble of we don't start getting some supplies like primers, powder and some decent Westerns to get younger people involved. Our Virginia State match has gone from a couple of hundred shooters to far less then one hundred for Labor Day of this year. We need some young blood with the passion for the sport you and I have.

Great action shots. Beautiful horses - both they and their riders know their stuff!

All of them are very good but #5 and #7 are excellent.
Great job of shooting (on your part) those are not easy pics to get.
Well done.
