Another S.O.B.

It happened again..! I was laying in bed for the night and I had an aggravating itch on my inner thigh and of course when you have an itch...you have to scratch it.

I thought, "Darn...another chigger!" yet I felt a little something as I scratched and picked at it so I turned on the light and I'll be ...it was a Lone Star Tick. I pulled it off and took it downstairs and put it into a bottle of alcohol for a later session and this is the offending S.O.B. that was sucking on my leg.

Another fine photo, this time of an enemy! I really hate those buggers! Fortunately we don't have a lot, and feeding the dogs a broad spectrum Flea / Tick / Mite preventive has cut off their main route into the house and on to us.

Thanks, Quixdraw. This one got me in the backyard yesterday for that was the only time that I was out of the house. I often pick them up on my walkabouts for I get deep into the thickets although I do spray and spray often.

Have not yet had the (dis)pleasure of meeting this particular species. Almost always they are dog ticks.
Nice stack! 👍

Mark, these are the species that I most often encounter. They must like the way I taste for I'm sure that it's not due to my good looks.

They have pills for dogs, why not for people? When I lived in a tick heavy area, my Wife used to tease me about the "tick dance" executed in front of the bathroom mirror.

Quixdraw, that's a very good question. Why isn't there one? Perhaps its a conspiracy with the makers of "Deepwoods Off" paying the pharmaceuticals to keep it off the market.

Oh Gary, that must have been a gross experience, I don't suppose your wife was too pleased either Nice shooting though.

Thanks, Brenda. For some reason I tend to attract them and the "seed ticks",which are the young phase of them, are the worst by far. The Better Half conducts tick-inspection (that's the gross part for her) when I find one looking for others.

That is an good question. According to this, the pills used for dogs are actually rather toxic:
https://www.reddit.com/r/askscience/comments/6h7auc/why_isnt_an_antitick_medication_available_for/ , and I am now concerned about using it in our dog. I would bet we would need a higher dose b/c we are bigger.

There are other agents used on animals (that greasy stuff you put on their back, and also anti flea and tick collars), but we bathe more often and that removes the pesticide.

DEET it is.

Mark, as a man-of-science you may know the answer. "Is there any repellent that I could use that would keep our kids from sucking on my wallet?"

You should NEVER just pull him off your skin…the head will detach and infection could set in…use a hot needle and just touch his rear..he’ll back out of your skin whole…then KILL the S.O.B.

Be safe,

George II, great advice and one that should not be taken lightly.
