Interesting that the coating is more than just paint.

Surprised that no one's come up with a water jacket to keep the lens (& camera?) at a constant 24°C...
You know, for really perfect pictures.

I think it's just as dumb as using a water cooled PC.

I don't normally speak up to threads, but I've always thought white lenses, or any other wider colored gear, was less preferable to black. If I'm close to anything, I even wear black, so it's less likely that any of my reflection or my equipment's reflection show up in reflective surfaces on the photograph. I don't have anything but black lenses in my bags.

I don't have lenses of any color but black but I do think white lenses make sense. Why they have to be black even if white doesn't make them cooler.

Because Nikon does not make White lenses.
You have no choice.

Not white, but light grey. I've seen some of these come up on ebay and such. For example:

Cray is very much alive and well and building some of the fastest supercomputers in the world (4 of the top 20). In fact Cray and Intel are partnering to build the world’s first ExaFlop machine at Argonne National Labs, where we built one of the first PetaFlop machines just about 10 years ago: https://www.electronicdesign.com/industrial-automation/article/21807898/intel-and-cray-will-deliver-first-exoscale-supercomputer-to-national-lab

“Wet Crays” are a thing of the past, but water cooling servers and racks are becoming more and more prevalent in both mainstream and high performance computing. Dell and IBM (among others) currently sell water cooled servers and there is a new VITA spec for water cooled full mil conduction cooled PC boards for military and aerospace applications. One of the challenges is that the quick release water fittings on the boards require much more force to insert into the enclosure. There have been a few notable failures - remember the water cooled Macs (that leaked)?
