Cool looking birds Mike. The Bobwhite quail in the Northeast looks different than your California quail.

Thanks, Vince, these are the first I have seen and they show up in my yard (LOL).

Cute rotund birds and very good set Mike. They can be very noisy!

I appreciate your kind words, Sylvia. This pair was quiet. We think that they were hiding from predators by lurking under our table.

I have not taken any bird shots for many weeks because of the drought, heat, wind and bugs. To my pleasant surprise, yesterday my wife pointed out two California quail on our patio. I could not open any doors for fear of disturbing them, so the attached set is taken through a window. They hung out under the patio table and then went to the fence and walked away.

Please forgive the poor detail, but I am not at my best trying to use a 200 - 600mm lens handheld.

For sure, they were very alert and opening a door would have wiped out the photo op.

Thanks, Jeff. The guys exist in our bird refuges, but we had never seen any in our yard before.
