Returning on our steps through Hevelius Park, we visit St Catherine's Church, the oldest of the many churches in Gdansk, this entire posts is dedicated to this interesting edifice.
ST CATHERINE'S CHURCH - This is the oldest parish church in Gdansk, built probably at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries. Its existence was first confirmed in written sources in 1227. The church was constructed on the initiative of Pomerelian princes who also funded its construction. Since the time it was finished to modern times, it has repeatedly been destroyed and rebuilt. The massive church's tower has 76 m in height and is topped with a Baroque tented roof. Other Baroque features, such as monumental epitaphs, can be seen inside. The interior consists of paintings by famous Gdansk's painters. Among the medieval monuments, fragments of wall polychromes, a late Gothic altar from the beginning of the 16th century and a carved group of the Crucifixion from the same period have survived. Since the end of World War II, it had to undergo numerous renovation and reconstruction works, the last of which were necessary after the fire in 2006, when the church roof burnt down. Fortunately, the interior did not suffer any significant damages, the more so because it is one of the few in Poland that has a concert carillon, i.e. a set of 50 bells housed in the bell tower and tuned together, which can be played using a special keyboard. The largest bell - Catherine - weights 2845 kg. The church has the world's first ever pulsar clock, which uses radio pulses from pulsars to keep the time.

Excellent set Joe. That is definitely one big church tower. Beautiful interior shots, especially #2, 3, and 4. I really like the stained glass window shots with the reflections, and the last two where you can see the buildings on the outside through the stained glass. I bet the workers are busy all the time maintaining St. Catherine's Church.
A stately old building. Good job, Joe.

Thank you Vince. It is a big and old church, yes, not necessarily very glamerous, but I loved the quiet corners and the somewhat dim lights here and particularly the stained window reflections and combinations with the outside elements.

Thank you very much Ken, the light quality here was superb and I was very happy to be able to capture some of it.
Impressive interior shots in low light conditions. I especially like #6 and 8 with the challenge of darks and lights and as your timing with the sun is at just the right time.

Thank you Craig for looking in again on the tour and for your kind words. I was very lucky for being there at the right time, didn't know the city before so couldn't plan what shots to take at what time and place but I have to admit I was very pleased with the captures here in this church.
