D7200, excellent camera, it gives the same quality photos as my D500, costs much less.

The tittle said "Need new Nikon" so regardless how good the D7200 is where can you get one new?

I suggest asking B&H in New York, https://www.bhphotovideo.com/.

But a good used D7200 will take excellent photos (I am looking at a couple of used ones right now, as I like to save money whenever I can, why pay almost twice for the same result?)

I used to be a big advocate for the D500. But I've decided that if you don't have a pretty good idea why you might need or want one, it's probably a pretty good sign that you don't...

And I'm amazed at how many people here think Z cameras are the only option and are so much more capable...

I never said they were the only option. As for more capable, my Z7 can do many things my D500 can’t.

I do think the DSLR is the only option for the OP. If I go mirrorless I would forget about DX. The reason for the DX size was only because the FX size sensors were too expensive back in the early 2000. There is no other good reason to use the DX size sensor on the F mount lenses.

Don't do it!!! See the earlier photo of Nikon cameras outnumbered by Canon & Sony at a sporting event...lol

Cheers!

Agreed thaz often the situation. But DX format can provide a great compact kit when compactness is a priority, such that lenses are chosen for compact size rather than to impress one’s peers.

My a6500 with 18-105 is about half the size of an SLR with a 28-210 and is f/4 all the way to its “210” end. Or I can put the pancake 20 on it and it’s my little Leica IIIC. But acoarst I agree that there’s no sense using a small format with big lenses at today’s sensor prices.

I have an old Nikon D5100 camera and I love it but I would like a new Nikon DX. Any suggestions.

For BIF and any other action photography-D500- hands down!

I find it interesting that not one person has mentioned the D7500. This camera is a jewel to shoot and is considered a junior D500. It has most of the attributes and quality of the 500 but it much lighter but has only one SD card slot! Oh my gawd! The emotional and irrational (and uninformed) rejections of this camera because of the lack of two slots is ridiculous. I've never had a failure on ANY Nikon DSLR I've owned, let alone the D7500 and I've used it for at least two years.
The bottom line is there are deals all over the place on this camera. Proof that ignorance apparently has its good side. Good luck.
I find it interesting that not one person has ment... (show quote)

I can back this! I shot with the D7500 for 3yrs and consider it a great photographic tool. And at good prices

Right on Ritag55! For a crop camera the D7500 is the best of several worlds. For what it's worth, I shoot 50% of the time with my NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II and the resolution, sharpness and dynamic range is indistinguishable from a buddy's D500 and I lose only a couple fps in the bargain.

Oooopz ... the 18-105 only makes it to about “160”, not to “210”. Compactness does bring some limitations. There is a Sony 18-135, but acoarst it’s bigger :-(

So by that logic I should be buying Justin Bieber albums instead of John Coltrane.
