When Canon puts together camera and lens kits, they include the EF 75-300mm III lens with the most entry-level cameras. Those are found in two-lens kits, along with the camera and an EF-S 18-55mm (usually the IS "II" version).

Are you buying new or used?

If new and an EF-S 18-55mm wasn't also included, it sounds as if it may be a gray market item. Those are where the seller buys overseas and imports unofficially, perhaps because they aren't one of Canon's 200 or so "authorized" dealers. Gray market don't have a factory (Canon) warranty. Instead the seller may offer a "store" warranty or an "international". That means if anything goes wrong you have to return it to the store... provided they're still in business. Not all gray market is bad... some long time, well established and reputable dealers like B&H and Adorama sell a lot that way. But there are also quite a few "fly by night" shysters selling gray market stuff.

Also, what camera are you buying? If it's new and supposed to be a kit, in N. America normally Canon only bundles the EF 75-300mm III lens with their most entry-level camera: the Rebel T7 (also called a 1500D or 2000D in other parts of the world).

To be brutally honest, that camera and lens are among Canon's least capable. The camera is missing a lot of features found on every other Canon DSLR. It has no self-cleaning sensor, no spot metering, LCD isn't articulated and isn't a Touch Screen... it even uses a 4 to 5 generation old Digic 4 processor. That old processor likely makes the simplistic AF system rather slow. Also related to the processor, it's ISO range is quite limited and it's top shooting speed is only 3 frames per second.

Plus the lenses sold in kit with it are among the most basic. The EF-S 18-55mm IS "II" is what's always included (you can't buy the camera new without it). This lens is okay optically and has image stabilization, but uses a slower, noisier micro motor focus drive system. The EF 75-300mm "III" lens bundled with the T7 in 2-lens kits sells separately for under $200 brand new, making it Canon's cheapest telephoto lens. It also lacks a lot found in other lenses. For example, the EF-S 55-250mm IS STM lens sold separately and bundled with some other cameras costs $100 more but is a better lens in every imaginable way. What the 75-300 III lacks, the 55-250 has, including: faster, quieter "STM" or "stepper motor" focus drive... effective and helpful image stabilization.... closer focusing ability... and last but certainly not least, far better image quality especially at the longer focal lengths.

If the camera is the Canon T7 (or 1500D or 2000D), I would recommend returning it. The missing lens is a perfect excuse.

Consider the Canon Rebel SL3 (or the earlier SL2 models, if you can find one... these are known as 250D and 200D outside N. America). This will cost more, but is a much more full featured camera. Similar to the T7 it uses a 24MP sensor and has a 9-point AF system, but because these are working in conjunction with a 4 generation newer Digic 8 processor, essentially the same sensor and AF system are both made more capable.

There isn't much difference between the SL3 and the two year older SL2. Mostly the SL3 got a one generation newer processor that makes it able to shoot 4K video, where the SL2 is only able to shoot 1080p HD. The SL3 also gets more shots per battery charge (both use the same LP-E17 battery... and both get more shots per charge than T7, which uses a smaller LP-E10 battery). One small glitch... for some reason Canon changed to flash hot shoe on the SL3 to a design that limits what flashes can be used in it. Both the SL2 and the T7 use a more "standard" type of hot shoe.

If the price of an SL3 with the better EF-S 18-55mm IS STM lens and a separately purchased EF-S 55-250mm IS STM are too much for your budget... Shop refurbished at the Canon USA website or even used at the various "big" reliable dealers (Adorama, B&H, Roberts Camera, KEH, MPB, etc.) If you can find one, an SL2 may save a bit more without giving up very much compared to the SL3. (Do not go as far back as the original SL1/100D... that model was much more basic and "entry level" than the two that have followed it.)

It was Amazon Direct. Received notice today that the lens has been shipped this morning and due to arrive early next week. The problem: Delayed shipment due to lens supplies being delivered late.Amazon was most helpful in helping me out.

Thank you everyone for your help.
