The question was about having your custom home built so here it is. If you are in the middle Tennesse area contact "Dickerson Construction, LLC". Three brothers, one is temperarily in Anchorage, AK, who were raised in the construction business; working when they were not in school from the age of 6-8 yrs old, they received the formal business education locally in Nashville. Their father is retired but available for consultations and sweat if needed. They haven't needed the sweat in 5 years, ;-( ... Did I mention they are my sons, shamelessly they are and They are ethical as well. Now you have my advertisement too.

Had to laugh at your 'humbleness' of your children. Every parent should be like you.... after all, our children are an extension of ourselves.

You must be so proud of your sons.... Not every parent is so fortunate.

All the homes you've shown are absolutely beautiful....anyone would want to own one of them..... Here's my take on a home for what it's worth.... However, it depends on who's gonna live in it. If it's a woman, the heart of the home will be the kitchen. My daughters had their homes built according to their specifications. Two have the most organized kitchens ever. Everything is at their fingertips.... with the den/tv room/music area overlooking the big curved bar looking across from the kitchen. A 'huge' pantry, with everything right where it needs to be.... and an eating table as you exit the kitchen area. One has a upstairs for whatever reason other than company since one has no children.... and it goes up from the kitchen area which is really convenient... A huge Island with a Corian counter top as well as the counters all around the kitchen and up partly on the wall to prevent leaking of water when wet. Most counter tops have a caulking which eventually mildews after leaks .... This needs to be solid Corian to prevent this and to have a high faucet spout to clean dishes under. Most stick out straight instead of high goose neck.

Pull out shelves under the kitchen counter. When a lady puts pots and pans in there they get scooted to the back and can't find what you want. It must also have several DEEP drawers in the cabinets for other things you use often instead of the 4 inch drawer height. Can't put much in those short height drawers.

But as people age... the upstairs are totally unused... only to collect dust for the maid who is also aging... that is if you're lucky enough to have a maid. I see fireplaces in most all homes... but who burns them..... no one! Three of my children have fireplaces, and not one of them have ever been used. Light fixtures are gorgeous and elaborate .. but are they practical when dust collects so rapidly and are extremely hard to clean. Ceilings are so high now, one must have a 12 foot ladder to clean the fixtures.

The bathrooms are so beautiful with the huge tub as well as a shower stall... but who uses the tub... ? Hardly anyone, most all take a shower, thus the tub is a wasted item of space but beautiful to look at. Women can't have enough drawers and doors in a bathroom.... This place is second to the kitchen area in use. Everything must be at her fingertips.
Her shower is tremendous. it's like and 8' x 8' ... lotta room in there.

Bedrooms need to have one or two walls which are thick enough for built-ins... such as drawers and more drawers, tv, and other stuff. Can't have enough drawer space. Besides that... when it comes to vacuuming time, no furniture other than a bed or night stands, will be in the way of cleaning. Love windows providing you don't have neighbors... I prefer one story homes cause no one likes to climb stairs as people age or even younger for that matter.

Dining rooms are beautiful to look at... but who uses them except for company... and how often does one have company...? I'm a practical person. Always have been even when younger. Like lots of closet space... for shoe racks, spaces/drawers for things rarely used, like quilts, blankets, etc.

Wall Tv's are a must... in various rooms.... lots of windows if in the country -- thin smaller windows in town -- too much meaness for big windows. A big cement patio with bar-b-que built in for relatives who come to visit rather than cooking in the kitchen to bring outside.

Built in ovens, microwaves, and a recessed cooking stove top.. A huge island with drawers and other openings for stuff. Also a joining big room for a washer and dryer with a huge built in table with drawers for folding clothes (plenty of foot space so you can stand up close to table) and closed in shelves/cabinets for other stuff not used often. A long rod in an area in which to hang clothes you dont want to put in the dryer. Big freezer could be sectioned off from this area too, close to the kitchen.

Garage - triple car ....mostly for space..... wall to wall built in cabinets for tools, etc... big closet for lawnmower and other gardening tools. This would be a dream home..... one I can only 'dream' of....

All the homes you've shown are absolutely gorgeous... People would love to have any of them to live in. Two of my girls have the most elaborate ceilings ever. the center is long octagon shaped which is high and deeply recessed with 4 inch beautiful moulding .... absolutely gorgeous. This moulding is throughout all the house. The carpenter guy who built her kitchen was a master carpenter. Never saw corners/cabinets so exact... and so perfect. The builder should be so proud of his handywork.... and he was too... He was a young man.... but oh so gifted with the saw and his measurements.

All your son's homes are so beautiful... When we see the accomplishments of our offspring, it makes one proud.. and you should be too.... Don't be ashamed to advertise for them.... I think it's marvelous. If I had a child with such accomplishments, I would do the very same thing as you. Good luck to them...

If wishing counts..... you bet.... But wishes won't pay for the 1 foot of land I could possibly buy. Maybe a doll house !!
