I think you got them with "wired speakers". Without saying what they were toking.

Did all cars have their own orator?

A recent post, sorry, couldn't find the source, about a guy entering a bar with a 1911 Colt, reminded me of this golden oldie. It is so old it is bald, gray-bearded, and probably wears Depends!'

It is Friday night, the local drive-in is nearly full, popcorn aroma fills the air, John Wayne is on the huge screen, and all is well. Suddenly, a guy bursts into the control shack, grabs the mike, flips on the switch, and screams out, "Okay, I know you are in here with my wife, and I'm coming to get you!"

Suddenly, wired speakers fly through the air as a traffic jam builds at the exit gate, 21 cars and pick-ups, and one camper, no wired speaker, trying to exit all at the same time.
A recent post, sorry, couldn't find the source, ab... (show quote)

Oh, yes. A "drive-in" is not the TV wall in a large Walmart store, with large doors.

Bete nota re.: "1911 Colt". In reference, in a previous entry, to my work weapon, I forgot to put in a "Semi" in front of the automatic. No, it is not a tractor-trailer for the pistol nor for the typo.

This reminded me of the one that theater that attached chains to the post and speaker. A few people forgot to remove said speaker and ended up with a broken car side window. I have talked to one guy who put in wire plug-ins and sockets on the speakers. That way if the customer forgot to remove the speaker, the plug would pull out of the speaker.

And so many forgot to turn off their radios when the drive-ins converted to radio bands. That is a story for another thread.

Drive-ins were sorta a unique form of entertainment in those days. Nothing like them since.

The days of driving to and backing up to a post with speakers for a triple feature with extremely reasonably priced foods and drinks from the concessions stand. And a play area with swings to send the young kids to run around while being observable.
