I've been working on this project for 9 months now. It's a gable in the making. I'm changing the outside of our home into a log cabin. All the logs come from my property. I pick out the size for the part of the project, some small and some big, that I will need. The next step I fall the trees then winch them out cut them 2' longer than I need for adjustment. Then I lift them with my log contraption and bring them up to the house to peel and seal. They're stored out of the sun as the sun can cause them to warp. I'll send more pics as the project continues. I'm also re roofing with metal roofing but I obviously have to build the gable prior to the roof.

Great and interesting project -- best wishes for a wonderful outcome! I'll bet you were hell with Lincoln Logs as a kid!

Scooter, I've lived in Washington most of my life but never heard of Yacolt; had to look it up. That project will keep you productive for the foreseeable future. Good luck.

I'm impressed and amazed that you can do all that work by yourself.

Thank you. I really enjoy work like this. The log gable is my biggest challenge. I hope it turns out as good as my imagination thinks it will. It will be a time consuming project and I'll post photos showing the project as it goes along. Thank you for the encouraging words.

Very interesting and what a great place to live...

We love it. We're out in the sticks but a half hour drive out of Battleground, Wa. the largest town close. Peaceful during these times. Thank you

What about cedar shakes instead of T111?

I thought about that but making enough cedar shakes out of these cedars would involve much more time and work. My wife is kind of sold on the T-111. It's actually not t-111 it's more of a sheet of plywood with 1x3" strips running top to bottom about 2' apart. There is a little winery close that has this and Tanya Harding just resided her house with it. She's about a mile away. The siding is stained rather than painted so it looks more rustic.

Thank you. I find it really daunting if I think about it much. The sooner I get it done the better I'll sleep.

Thanks Bob. Love Anacortes. Our house is about 20 miles, as the crow flies, from the peak of Mt. St. Helens. Not sure if you've ever heard of Cougar, Wa. but we're going to the "Berry Bigfoot Summer Stomp". Cougar is about half hour drive and has maybe 200 people. This is the first year of this festival and it rained all day on friday, the first day. Welcome to come join in the festivities. It's a rod run/poker run/ bike show.
