It's a shame that we can't discuss many topics here now without them being moved to The Attic. I've probably started posting a dozen topics, only to stop midway because I realized they could cause fights. Having different opinions is fine, but when it gets to the point that we automatically blame the other political party for any problems and start calling each other names, it's no fun anymore.
It's one of those catch 22, of knowing something but not enough to know it is wrong and being stubborn to know better. So individually they would oppose or find like minded fellows to form a group of the same opinion.
Hence we get divided with no intent in accepting or even acknowledging the others point of view.
I guess in part it is about control.
Any form of exclusivity is a way to control the masses.
Take you pick;
Form of government, i.e. coms vs demo
Government party, Religion, Fraternities, Mac vs PC, 1911 vs Glock...yada yada yada...
Our present modern life is essentially socialism. The problem is it is being run by businessmen without a soul. So it just degenerate to power, control and being the one on top.
And they want to keep it that way through media, education and so forth because;
Divided we fall.
As I said in the original post, I shouldn't even posted this because it was moved to The Attic. If there can be more than one opinion on a topic, it shouldn't be posted.

I disagree with you, Jerry. You can discuss many subjects on UHH and stay out of the Attic as long as you stay away from politics. Here's an example of a four-page discussion on morality that has managed to stay out of the Attic:

I've watched several threads start in Chit-Chat and get d**gged into the Attic because someone injected politics. Very unfortunate, because there should be room for discussions of many subjects without going political. And once you're in the Attic you can give up any hope for intelligent discourse. It's a mudslinging fest, not a discussion forum.
I ventured into the Attic a few times with the sincere hope of gaining a better understanding of both the liberal and conservative positions on politically controversial topics. I was called a liar by a couple of the Attic residents because they could not accept my sincerity. They are mostly interested in outdoing each other in insults and have zero interest in learning.
The divide in this country is very sad and frightening. I may have an overly simplistic approach, but I think we should all sit back and consider the following:
Try to live by the Golden Rule; recognize that there are two sides to every coin; and try to understand the other person's point of view even if we disagree with it. I'm not always successful at doing that but I try!

That's because politics were brought into the discussion....

Right. Some topics cannot be discussed.

Admin doesn't want any political views on his forum outside of the Attic section. So topics with political comments get moved to the Attic. That's pretty straightforward, no?

Right. As I said, I started and deleted several posts because I thought that they could have become political, even though they didn't begin that way. I'll be more careful in the future.

I like your ideas. At the same time, one should always remember to not bring a knife to a gun fight.

As someone who always enjoys your posts, I would hope that you don't censor yourself.
