Yup, chuck whole ears on the grill... enjoy the smoke... butter and salt/pepper... and eat a raw one while the others cook.

A few years ago I bought some corn at a market and the owner said it was so sweet it could be eaten raw. I’d never tried that before...I’m a city kid...so I did and he was right!

Soak it in ice water, roast on bar-b-que grill in the green husks(?), no butter or salt needed!

Corn on the cob was on sale for five for $1.00, so I got ten ears over the course of the week. Then I made a great discovery.

One drawback to corn on the cob is the cooking procedure - boiling it in a big pot of water. Instead, I microwave it for three minutes. Five minutes for two. I've added a couple of preps. Remove some of the looser, outer husks and cut off both ends. When you remove it from the microwave, it will be very hot. Having fewer husks to remove will make it a bit easier, especially when you've already cut off the end by the stalk.

We’ve been doing it that way for years. Saves on water and power.

My "corn on the cob":
1. only buy very young kernel corn - the smaller the kernels the more tender and sweet taste.
2. boil water in a large pot
3. place the ears of corn in the rapid boiling water
4. remove the ears after two minutes
5. eat it right away - if some time will elapse until eating, wrap the ears in tin foil
This is a religion for me. I grew up in my father's produce market. Worked from 9 yrs. of age until his passing (unfortunately I was 15), then I worked for other merchants.

Give this a try. It produces sweet/crispy corn for consumption. If you like it, you'll never go back to soggy, overcooked corn.

I enjoy corn although frozen corn is the better value for "corn on the cob" is more "cob" than it is "corn" for the price.

3 minutes in microwave, as picked. Then cut off big end at largest diameter (you will lose a couple of rows). Then squeeze the corn out of the husk by pinching the top of the ear. Comes out clean with no strings!

Wow! That sounds like a winner. Will try when our corn comes in.

Yep…far and away the best method. Pull the husk down and strip the silk out then pill husks back up…30 minute soak in water and 8 minutes on each of 4 sides on the grill…then wrap in foil while you do the steak.

Wife makes butter with some combination of roasted garlic, salt, white pepper, lime juice, hot sauce, cilantro pesto, Italian basil pesto, and Parmesan cheese…depends on what we want that day.

Do you unwrap the corn first?

I don't. And I usually cut the fat end off after microwaving. My rule is 4 minutes on high power per ear. Works like a. Harm.

Not sure anyone mentioned the best part of microwaving is the clean removal of the ear from the husk. Usually no silk or loose husks to clean up.

The problem with microwaving the unhusked ear of corn is clearing all the debris after it is cooked. The simplest way is to wet a large sheet of paper towel, squeeze it so it is not dripping wet, wrap the husked corn and place it on a microwaveable plate for 3, 4 (if frozen) minutes. Comes out perfect every time, is quick and easy. Use 5 minutes if two ears. (frozen)

I haven't seen Silver Queen for sale in PA for several years. Is it still available?
