I often see a poster apologizing for showing an image from their cellphone because their real camera wasn’t available. What constitutes a “real” camera?

Anything capable of capturing an image.

The thread is a year old.

Anything new to add would be better served by starting a new one.

Why? If you start a new one in the same topic, you get yelled at and berated because it’s been done before and because you didn’t bother to do a search first.

Who cares?

Perhaps in the intervening year reality has changed, so an update is warranted.

Well logic tells me that (a) if you have something to say or (b) if you have a question you'd like answered, you're better off starting afresh than putting your material at the end of 14 pages of often tedious commentary.

A valid point. However, when one does this as you suggest, nobody should give them grief as to why they didn’t do a search FIRST.

I think often the the poster is chastised because the relevant prior thread is fairly recent. But I agree even so there is no call to give them grief when all that is required is a cite to the relevant postings.

The real truth here is that these forums attract many people who use them to belittle others and flaunt their own presumed superiority, and also those people just looking for a fight. It is best to turn a deaf ear to them and post what you like. Their are also many on these forums who are pleasant and helpful. When you go out into the woods you don't know if you will encounter a squirrel or a grizzly bear.

Apart from specialized uses such as extreme telephoto or birds in flight, then you are saying that if images were made of the same subjects under the same conditions by both camera and cellphone and were printed and placed side by side on a table, that you could pick out those made by camera versus those made by a cell phone.? Or were you just making a quip which is ok and is something done regularly on these pages.?
