On Thursday I found myself surrounded by 3 police cars and 6 policeman.
A woman living in a small country town in Tasmania, Australia had reported me to the police as a hitman with a tripod and rifle looking for the best location to take the shot. Apparently the woman had an argument on social media and that person was sending a man around to shoot her. The funny thing was that I ended up having a laugh with 6 policeman in a quite location by a river bank.

While in England, I was photographing the Changing of the Guard. I guess they didn't allow that and was approached by a "Bobbie," a British policeman. While I tried to snap a few more shots while being "escorted" from my position, I was asked, "would you like to be photographing the inside of a British jail!" A memorable experience!

Dennis,
Years ago while attending a wedding rehersal, I became very irritated at the extra-unreasonable demands made by the Pastor, who then drew an imaginary line, ordered me to step on the other side and was extremely rude, ordering me to 'take a seat' 'till the rehersal was completed, which I did!

I went to the rear of the church and sat near another person who was seated there as we struck up a conversation. I then began dumping my frustration about that Pastor to her as she quietly listened.
I said, "I think he's completely unreasonable and will prevent me from getting the shots the Bride expected"
The woman quietly shook her head in agreement, saying, "Yes, I know! I have lived with it for 12 years! He's my husband!"
Do you know that feeling where you simply want to totally disappear?
God Bless,
Papa Joe

haha, that's what makes weddings so damn difficult to do, and no two alike. One of the first weddings we shot the pastor made us shoot from the church balcony, probably 75 feet away from the service! And, of course, flash at that distance was pretty much useless even if he allowed us to use flash!

A few years ago we went to see and photograph the Poppies (in California.) They are bright orange and were in full bloom. That year the flowers were everywhere. My wife looked up and saw a Buddhist Monk amongst the flowers on the side of the road, wearing a robe the same color as the flowers. We had not yet arrived at the protected park area. People were maintaining their distance but I started talking to him...of course he was quite friendly and wanted to pose for photos. He even invited me to his church!

In London with my Nikon film cameras, 1977, Queen Elizabeth's 25th year as Queen. Silver Jubilee, a massive celebration and parade with huge crowds. I had gotten route information and picked several places to stop and shoot, got lots of good ones. The last place before the end, I climbed up on top of a large road grit box. A Bobbie in full uniform and helmet approached. "Sir, you appear to be an American, you'll have to come down from there, (Smiled) but after the Queen has passed." I have the slides still.

I went out to shoot a series of waterfalls after a heavy rain. Spent 2 hours and had a wonderful time. When I got home and started to offload, I found out that I had a corrupted memory card in the camera. Zero shots!!

After photographing a wedding the brides sister and mother asked me to come with them for a special photo of the bride before she and her new husband left for their honeymoon. Of course I said I would take what ever they wanted so they took me back to the master bedroom and bath, all full of ladies and I photographed the bride as she undressed and bathed. On another wedding which was a very big one I had the nightmare of a photographer concerning equipment. In a thirty minute span of time I had a sink cord go bad, a flash go bad, a lens go bad and a camera go bad. The odds of something like that happening is unbeliveable. I always took a complete backup of all the photographic equipment I would need and was so thankful; I had to use all the backup that day.

Do you format your cards in camera before use, or do you just delete old images as required? Always best to do a fresh format on cards.

I was photographing a wedding with a medium format film camera. I was photographing the bridesmaids coming down the aisle. As one began her walk I realized I shot the last frame. So I had to wind the roll to the end, load a fresh roll of 120, wind it to the first frame. I got it done and took her picture in time. That was a stressful success.

A great reason for using a camera with interchangeable backs. One in use, and one or more loaded and ready.

I was getting a macro shot of the lavare in a paper wasp nest that did not end well for me. The picture came out good though.

I was photographing a wedding at the historic Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist church. The bride and groom were most cooperative and allowed me to make many of the photos prior to the ceremony and these were done in record time. While waiting in the sanctuary for the ceremony to start, a young women and I began chatting, and she mentioned that her boy friend was the best man and she hoped to get some shots of him in his tux. She was shooting an EOS rebel with the kit lens and happened to remark that she was having to be careful how many pics she took because she had left her memory card back at their hotel and she didn't know how many pics her internal memory would hold. I carefully explained to her that her camera had no internal memory and she replied that it surely did. She could see every picture on the tiny screen on the rear of the camera as she shot them. I told her to review her pictures as I rummaged in my camera bag for a spare Compact Flash card that was not committed to the wedding.

I still get Christmas cards from her.
