For me the conversion works for me. I like the inclusion of the ducks in the foreground. For me it adds a bit more interest.

Thank you, Frank. I was pleased they were there and definitely wanted to include them. One reason is I already had a lot of duck-less Mt Adams photos

A good conversion but I like the color better in this one, mainly because of the sky. The streaks of blue look ok in color but just don't look natural in b&w (my uneducated opinion.) By the way I like the composition.

I find so many appealing parts of both your b&w and color versions of this image, Linda!
It's just a wonderful image and your handling in both renditions are just awesome!
It's a true to life image in my eyes! So, after reading some comments about the "middle ground" between the ducks and Mt. Adams, I just wanted to say it truly captures the way I have seen the mountains from the East side!
Well done Linda!!
Rob

Thank you for your feedback, Guy. An excellent observation! Might need a sky replacement

I took a second look on my monitor instead of my tablet. I think cropping the top part of the sky off would get rid of most of the darker parts and maybe even improve the composition. It's an outstanding image either way.

Love the ducks! Usually I prefer color, but this works beautifully in b&w. You are a skilled photographer as well as post processor. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sticking with the thread, Guy.

I've been trying the b&w conversion tools in Affinity. Below is a more dramatic shot than the one at beginning of this topic, and I've cropped some sky at your observation. A different edit could easily make the sky lighter.

I found that with Affinity's limited b&w tools, it is a good idea to make some changes to the original color first, such as selective saturation and levels/curves. Dodging and burning - either before or after conversion - is another way to make a statement.

There are some strange results in the bushes with this one, so don't look too closely. I need to go back and find out how that happened

Thanks so much for your lovely comments, Ellen. I'm pleased you enjoyed. The more closely I look the more issues I am finding with my various edits!

I really like the textures in the foreground and the creamy snow on the mountain in the background.

Linda, this is a big improvement in the distant mountain - having a little more shading and less solid white (my uneducated opinion.) I also like the crop. The mountain is not vertical center any more.
Edit: Actually the mountain was not as solid white as I remembered it on my tablet. I love this image.

Thank you, Guy! If we think very long about how people view photos (what kind of device) and what they see (color calibration, brightness), we might give up digital sharing online entirely

Linda you are a master with Silver Efex. It is amazing what people see and how I see them too after they are pointed out. Guess I'm not a critical observer.

I am going to answer the question you posed to Val. These are my opinions and nothing else.

Well executed landscapes cry out to be displayed in B&W. I see color landscapes and photos of color landscapes every day of my life. Maybe because of sensory overload I take them for granted and move on. Good B&W landscapes stop me in my tracks. Every time! In this case it was the sharp contrast between the mountain and the foreground.
