When I decided to walk the dog today, I had to make a few decisions. What camera stuff did I want to take along, and where do I want to go. Three o'clock on a pretty sunny afternoon, I decided that filtered sunlight in the woods would be better than bright afternoon vistas. I also decided to bring only a medium length telephoto. So I screwed (literally)my Takumar 135mm onto my adapter and headed out with the dog and the Z6. I was looking for a particular type of image. Singular subject shot wide open with lots of background separation. Here is what I came up with.
no. 1 Diagonal Leaf Pattern

no. 2 Mountain Laurel

no. 3 New Growth

no. 4 New Maples

no. 5 Usually pretty bright, Bunker has not yet figured out that shaking while in the water is pointless. (Out of focus. Must practice manual focusing quickly moving objects. )

I really like your use of the light, Erich!
As is so often the case, the lighting makes the shot. All plants are very nicely done. I'm not sure about the last one. Did you throw him in or was it a voluntary swim?
Mission accomplished

Pointless? Maybe you're missing out on the fun aspect of it

Once I saw how the light was coming through the trees and illuminating some areas, while leaving other areas in deep shadows, I concentrated on using that in my compositions. The 135 really worked well in isolating the subjects from the background. Fun day in the park. Thanks for taking a look and commenting.

Bunker is not much of a swimmer. Whenever he gets hot, though, he likes to go for a dip and cool off. He goes in by himself. Thanks for taking a look.

Maybe. One thing is clear, though, I'm out of practice shooting moving subjects with a manual tele. I'll have to work on that. Thanks for taking a look.

I really love nature shots of this sort! Form and light are so beautiful. As for Bunker, oh well!
Very nice set Erich - the walk paid off in more ways than one!
Your decision of subject and location on a bright sunny day was the right decision. I particularly like your first shot Simple subject and muted lighting and background.

I agree with you. I had a blast looking for smaller shapes where the light was appealing. I think using a 135mm helped because you can still get pretty close to your subject; but it helps to isolate what you are concentrating on. Thanks for taking a look. Glad you enjoyed them.
