aParroting we go...
A friend and I went out yesterday specifically looking for parrots here in Southern California. They are surprisingly common...probably because of the mild-to-tropical weather we experience. I've seen flocks in the middle of downtown Los Angeles, in several parks in Santa Ana, and over near Knotts Berry Farm, so urban sprawl doesn't faze them. Here are a few photos I was able to capture. The Lilac-crowned parrot shot was taken across the Santiago Creek bed, maybe 120 yards away...not the sharpest...included for comparison. All photos were shot with a Nikon D500 using a Nikkor 200-500mm telezoom, hand held. Hope you enjoy.
We're planning to go out to find more parrot species next week. If I get any good shots, maybe I'll post them.

We think these were the parents of some of the other Mitered Parakeets in our group of 8.

Thank you, Joe. It was a fun experience...a little rain at the start and always keeping our ears pealed in hopes of tracking down the parrots. For the Mitered Parakeets, we were literally driving down the street with our windows open when my partner shouted "STOP"...and the birds were up in a tree just a couple of feet ahead of us. Being green birds in a green tree, if we had relied on seeing them, we would have missed them. Glad you liked the photos. Stay well and have a good week. jak
Nice shots of another group of invasive species that should be eliminated but of course can't
I never realized they hang this far north. Nice set!
