Anyone know what year it is?

Is this on Stony Brook near the Post Rd? Glad to see you are out shooting! Mark

If you search the Internet for 1949 Buick Roadmaster Sedanette, it will return many images of this automotive design beauty.

I think you have a 1948 Buick Roadmaster.

I think that is correct. As a kid, my job, when the car was washed, was to clean and shine all that chrome in the front end.

Thank you all for your comments. I'd never heard the term "sedanette" before.
So 1949 was the first year for Buick's iconic portholes?
I wonder if a convertible version would have ruined the lines.

Sedanette: “A two-door sedan having a slanted back with the rear window and trunk along one unbroken curve”. Cadillac made Sedanettes also, maybe first.

Looks to me like it is from the Mid to late 1950's, by the Styling.

The styling is so sleek and beautiful. I had forgotten Buick had made those beautiful cars, but one family that went to our church in my youth had one. I also did not recall that Buick had the old Dynaflow transmission in 1959.

My Dad had a 1951 Buick with the Dynaflow two speed automatic. In looking at your last photo, my Dad's car had the identical Dynaflow shift lever on the steering column. This is the first time I have seen this car posted on UHH. A car this sleek should have been a collector's dream car, But I think that has not happened to it.

Notice the order of the gears - P N D L R - a disastrous arrangement if you tried to downshift to slow the car down. I did it once in a 1952 Special. The wheels locked up and spun the car. The torque converter did not last long after that. Buick subsequently changed to P R N D L before they finally gave up on Dynaflow.

Its design beauty pleases the eye. I feel the urge to buy one to tool around in.

Prices aren't as high as I expected, although these are ten years older.

Here's a '49 for an asking price of about $90k.

Anyone remember those plastic seat covers in the summer ? Pretty hard to get unstuck. Come to think of it you'd slide all over in the winter. No fun. But I remember the sound the cars made when slowly going over gravel. The motors were so quiet all you heard was the gravel under the tires. I loved that sound.

When I come into my millions, I'll get serious about buying that 1949 Buick. Meantime, I'll feast my eyes on its compelling automotive design beady.
