I'm sure that must've been the reason manufacturers changed gear selection sequence to the one we're familiar with today.

Buick's copy of the 1950's model 61 sedanette. Great USA touring rig. Enormously comfortable, enormously thirsty, and a great car to date in (highschool age). Back seat like a stage.

I'm with you Jerry. Of course having "holes" on the side doesn't sell as many cars .
