No harm in that ... Think of it as a lengthy send off, a memorial vigil.
No harm in that but if the OP goal is to have the latest NIKON DSLR then the D850 is it. There won't be the replacement. Just like the F6 was the last Nikon 35mm SLR the D6 is the last Nikon DSLR. I have the PB-6 bellow by Nikon and I don't see the PB-7. #6 is the end...
Well the OP won't believe me but wait and he shall see.
It's not that I "want" to use them as a source, it's just that they have reported on this.
Many of those discontinued lenses are DX lenses and AI-S manual focus lenses.
They also report at that link that Canon is doing some of the same.
Right now there are several retailers offering a $500 instant factory rebate on the D850. That prompted me to think it might be being phased out and a new updated model coming soon.
The information many of you provided has been very helpful. Dilemna, do I sell my D500 keeping the two FX zoom lenses (which would be perfect for the D850) or just do nothing for now. Many responses have implied that the D850 is the last DLSR Full frame that will ever be built by Nikon. Does anyone have a suggestion of a market for the D500 to sell? Two yrs old, low clicks.
Thanks everyone for your valuable responses.

Just so you understand NikonUSA. Except for "Grey Market" cameras and lenses, all Nikon dealers sell Nikon products at the same price. NikonUSA sets the prices. When shopping, just look for a reputable dealer. You can check the prices as NikonUSA.com.
There are a number of dealers often mentioned here that are considered very good to deal with. B&H and Adorama are the two most mentioned.

I didn't realize that you had a D500, since your profile indicates that you have a D5500. From an operational perspective, the D850 and D500 are twins, with controls in the same place and functionality pretty much identical. Unless money is an issue, I'd suggest keeping the D500. There are going to be times that you just don't want to mess with the 46mp images that the D850 produces. You will find images from these cameras to be very similar in character. you might at least not want to get in a big hurry to sell the D500.
And yes...the sale is a nationwide sale authorized by NikonUSA. I would expect pretty much all authorized Nikon dealers to be offering it, although they are not required to do so. The agreement with Nikon USA and their dealers only mandates the minimum resale price.

At those times you can easily switch the D850 to DX mode instead of switching cameras.
Not saying there is anything wrong with having more than one camera.

I wish to upgrade my format to Full FX.
Does anyone know about Nikon's plans for a new model such as a D860 or D900?
I do not wish to purchase a D850 and have it out of date in the near future.
(I currently have a D500 which I will sell, and two FX lenses.)
Thanks.
NO one knows. NO one here anyway. I worked for Nikon many years ago and maintain close relations with many current reps. I have heard nothing. I do know that the Nikon Z7II and the current D850 share many features. That could be telling you something if you read between the lines.
Also, Sony is no longer in the A mount business. Strick two, if you get my drift.
20 years from now, the D850 will still be a great camera. It represents the finest of DSLR-dom. What could you possibly be expecting from a "D850S", or "D860", that would be so much more advanced than the current D850? Your D500 has the same pixel density as the D850, just in a smaller sensor, which gives greater apparent reach than the D850. Mark Smith and many others do awesome nature shots with the D500. That said, if you must have the FX format, and you like the discount being offered now on the D850, just go for it!

This information is very valuable. Guess I will wait for the D850 upgrade.
I already have two FX zoom lenses for my D500 and I am interested in a F body.
(I will then have a low-click D500 for sale)
Thanks.
I wouldn't. the D850 is an excellent camera and will be for a long, long time.

Even if they introduce a replacement the D850 will be a great camera for many, many years ahead. It is so feature-rich.
Completely agree. The D850 is a fabulous camera, and Nikon (and authorized dealers) are offering it at $500 off right now.
CORRECT.......thanks Trix....it ain't Rocket Science....the D850 is an excellent camera and will probably out-live it's owner if allowed to do so. hahahaha
The D850 is a great camera, but have you given consideration to a Z7II?
That's a tough call. The D850 was introduced in 2017, so it's due for replacement. Will Nikon introduce more DSLRs? They're not saying. If you like the D850, buy it. Even if a replacement does come along, it won't be available tomorrow, and your D850 will continue to work just fine.
