Now that is a mouthful if you try to say it 10 times real fast!
The Carmel Mission was the second of the 21 California Missions and was founded by Fr. Junipero Serra in 1770. Its beginnings were in Monterey, California and soon after relocated to the head of Carmel Bay. Over the centuries it has flourished at times and then fallen into disrepair and somewhat abandoned. There have been several renovations beginning in the mid 1800's and through the 1900's and still continuing to date. There is a very active Historical and Preservation Society that raises funding and supervision of the current renovations. Mass and services are held in the Basilica along with other events. There are three museums within the beautiful Mission grounds and we spent a few hours them and the courtyard along with the Basilica.
These photos are of a stroll through the large Mission courtyard and its beautiful landscaping.

Great shots I was there many times about thirty years ago, and I am glad to see that it is holding up well and maintained beautifully. The one spooky part, to me, was always in the room that housed Father Serra's tomb. Probably my favorite mission after San Juan Bautista.

That is great Joe, didn't expect anyone on the hog had been there. Never been to San Juan Bautista and will google to get an idea how far it is from Carmel. We've been to Capistrano and Sant Barbara Missions and now Carmel so would enjoy trying SJB!!
