I got the Sony 24-105mm when I got my Sony A7 III three years ago. This still is my favorite travel lens because it is versatile and sharp across the board. It weights 663g and thus is quite portable. I love my primes, but in situations where you cannot or do not want to change lenses the Sony 24-105mm is the perfect lens.

My favorite telephoto lens is the Zeiss Batis 135mm. If you use Clear Image Zoom you can extend it up to 270mm without loss of image quality. Obviously, this is not long enough for wildlife. The Sony 100-400 definitely is on my wish list.

Any good word about the Sony 18-135mm compared to 24-105mm or as of its own?

The Sony 18-135mm is a good lens, but it is a lens for crop-sensor cameras. I own it and use it frequently on my Sony a6000. This is my super-light travel kit.

Yes indeed, it is for my a6000.
Thanks for your reply.

I am renting a Sony a7111 and a Sony 24-70 lens and a Sony FE 100-400 lens. I love the the camera and the long lens!!! I can actually carry the lens. I briefly owned the Tampon 150-600 but could not handle it. Eventually I want to buy this camera and a telephoto lens, fast glass with a max range of 105mm. The Sony lenses are much too heavy. I have not done any research yet but can anyone recommend a walk around lens?

All depends what you're planning on shooting? I find a 25-105mm zoom is my favorite for outdoor shooting. A 24-70mm is a nice range for indoor shooting.

Perhaps something Freudian this way comes? Look closely at the text, Ladies and Gentlemen.

Those Tampon lenses absorb a lot, don't they? JK!

I owned a a6000 for a couple years and bought a G series 24-105, f4 that became my workhorse. When I sold the camera and lenses, it was the hardest to give up. Really liked that lens. Not too heavy, well balanced, and every thing I asked.

I have exactly the same combo and love it. Too often I leave the Nikons in the closet and just grab the a6000 with the 24-105mm f4 attached.

I love my 70-300, close focuses so I can get small things and gives me reach. But I picked up the 200-600 over winter and love it. Have it on my a6500 and the 70-300 on my a7ii.

Yup, the FE200-600mm zoom is a lovely lens!

Sony 24-105 f/4 is a wonderful, sharp lens for 99% of your walking around needs. A lighter lens with the equivalent focal length range will produce noticeably lower image quality.

The only way you can significantly reduce the camera+lens weight is to go to a camera with a smaller sensor size.

Thanks for the link. Its sites like this that minimize the bias and subjectivity of lens purchases regarding optical quality.

I use Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 as my walk around lens on my a7RIV. It is a great lens, half the weight and half the price of a similar Sony lens. I also have the 17-28mm f2.8, 70-180mm f2.8 and 70-300mm Tamron lenses. All have the same barrell size so my lens filters fit all my lenses.

Ditto 👍👍👍

Yes, the 50mm f/1.2 does shine doesn't it...it should for the coin.
What made me chuckle was the Sony 20mm f/1.8 ... probably the best steal of a lens out there for price/performance.

Yes the Sigma is excellent. But at the moment the Sony 100-400mm GM is the only one of the two that can take teleconverters. I know a pro friend that tried the Sigma and liked it, but chose the Sony and with a Sony 2X teleconverter can have a 200-800mm lens which he loves for Bird and wildlife photography. Lets hope Sigma comes out with some teleconverters for that fine lens, As of now, Sigma says none available .

FYI, I have owned a few Sigma lenses and they are excellent, and I currently have three, Sigma Art 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN, Sigma Art 70mm f2.8 Macro DG DN, and Sigma Art 85mm f1.4 DG DN lenses, along with Sony and Tamron lenses for my Sony A1, A7RIV and A7SIII.

I did own the Sigma Contemporary 150-600mm lens in EF mount, which I used with the MC-11 adapter on my Sony cameras. It worked pretty well, but I eventually sold it when the Sony 200-600mm came out and the Sony is superior in many ways.

Cheers

Re teleconverters for Sigma e-mount glass. I read on one of the European alpha blogs that Sony has refused to license Sigma to produce teleconverters, thus they are available only for Sigma's proprietary mount. Hope that will change soon.
