Nice pictures of the monument. But a Greek salad in Germany? And curry wurst? What happened to traditional German food? I’m dreaming of rouladen, spatzle, weisswurst, etc.!!

Thank you Merry, happy to hear that you enjoy this set - and every once in a while we have to think of eating as well, can't just feast on the views alone ........

Thanks Ellen - well, guess what: Even in Germany food has become international - and I was quite eager to try the currywurst, had seen it in many places in Germany so it seems to be quite popular, but I never tasted it before - I would have to say though that I would prefer some authentic German fare, but then at home my wife makes her outstanding homemade "Spätzle", so that wouldn't be something new. But rest at ease, I will present some authentic German food as we go along on this tour.

Thank you John, I am happy to hear that you are enjoying our travels here in Germany, ancestral land of probably quite a few of our viewers here on UHH.

One last picture from Warendorf, then we headed (by car, not horse!) for PORTA WESTFALICA, an easy ride of some 100 km/60 mi to the northeast of Warendorf, where we made a first stop at the Emperor-Wilhelm Monument on a hill just outside of the town. From here we had a great view over the landscape of the Weser river, one of the main rivers of Northern Germany and this provided me one of the very few opportunities for some landscape photography. Porta Westfalica literally means "Gate to Westphalia" and the Weser river valley provides that northern entrance. I have only a few pictures of this location, concentrating on the Emperor William Monument, the landscape views from the monument plus a couple of town pictures including a presentation of our lunch (taken with my cell-phone camera): The food was good, the photos maybe a bit lacking.

Nice set, Joe! Especially this blue sky above those little towns! BTW, does #1 have to do with famous Baron von Munhgausen and one of his “true miracles”?
