To b&w, or not to b&w, that is the question...

Either is the choice of the photographer, but personally I like the black and white version better. Has a better tonal range. More snap and a dramatic look.
I think both images are well done. My preference is the B & W.
Black and white without a question.

I have a personal favorite between these two images, but I'd like to know... not only which one you prefer (if either!) but WHY you prefer it. Feeling, impact, hate b&w, whatever... I'd appreciate your comments and suggestions, as always... view in Download for best...
#1 is my choice, Tommy, better contrast and tonality.
I thank you one and all for your input and comments. Yes, we do live in a color world, but for me this image is all about impact, feel and mood. So... I like the b&w version
for this subject. I do, however, really like the sky in the color version, and think the red rooftop adds a bit of "kick" to the image. Both, IMHO, have merit, and the fact that there are so many diverse opinions about the same image just shows what a miracle the little box with the glass opening has available for all of us! Keep clicking, mates!
both are nice...as a rule I absolutely detest b+w because life is in color and I view it as such. I don't get into artistry with my photography although I do use it to tell a story because the wrecks that I do are just exactly that...a story that I have to tell in my photos so that when it goes to court the judge and jury can look at what happened through the lens of my camera and determine whether it was a simple "accident" or whether someone was on their cellphone, impaired, careless, speeding, etc. As an example I did one where a traveling salesman ran into the back of an eighteen wheeler and told the State Patrol that his phone was in his pants pocket and the truck had swerved just as he passed...except that he had a badly broken arm and I took a photo of his cellphone under the axle of the tractor some sixty feet away. When I travel and take photos it's to remind me of the wonder of God's creations and how beautiful they can be. And then there's my doggy...and he simply wouldn't look good in b+w.
The b/w image is dramatic with great tonal variations. Love it!! Also, sepia would work well for a really vintage look.
First off I really like the photo's. By the way I would also ask the same question if I took those pictures. Your B&W is very well done. However, I am partial to color because in my opinion it displays reality. So I would go with the color picture.
Color for me, more impact here.
If the texture of the house boards was more distinct (better image quality), then maybe a black & white.
For clear, weather-beaten, unpainted, barn boards B & W is almost always better. Not the case here.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts for this particular photo. It’s as if I just attended your mini seminar.
I think since the sky is the only thing with good color, B&W is the way to go

These are both excellent. Normally I tend to prefer color but in this case it is not easy to make a choice. I think I slightly prefer the B&W. The contrast makes the sky great and B&W seems to fit the scene and the age of the house.
The B&W by a longshot. Good work!
Black & White hands down.
