To b&w, or not to b&w, that is the question...

My choice is the B&W only because of Ansel Adams. Magic what he could do with an 8x10 view camera!

I prefer the color photograph because I see the world in color, not in black and white or shades of grey. When asked to compare between the two versions, I may acknowledge that the B&W looks okay, or even good (as it does in your example), but I will always prefer the beauty of color over a B&W photo.

I have a personal favorite between these two images, but I'd like to know... not only which one you prefer (if either!) but WHY you prefer it. Feeling, impact, hate b&w, whatever... I'd appreciate your comments and suggestions, as always... view in Download for best...

My favorite question is : “which will stop the average gallery stroller in mid stride?” The one with the most IMPACT! No question here! The B&W will bring that stroller’s heels to a screeching halt as he/she reaches to check their card’s balance!

The colored version is nice, but the B&W has unarguably forceful IMPACT! And impact is the name of the game!

Both are nice but I prefer the B&W for its intensity.

To me, #1 is a photo I would stop and look at. It evokes a particular mood. #1 I can see on a gallery wall where #2 I could see in a scrapbook.

I prefer the b&w version. I have to say that I spent time in the darkroom when I was working with b&w film and that kind of bias me toward monochrome images. I have always been an admirer of Ansel Adams and I agree that he was capable of making magic in the darkroom.
Those different tonalities of gray have always called my attention. No colors to distract, pure photography.

I like the black and white because my eyes immediately focused on the building. When I looked at the colour, my eyes were darting all around it.

I like both and think both have their merits. I do love that beautiful blue in the sky.

The color one just grabs my eyes. The b/w version has so much detail missing. Besides the last time I looked we live in a Wonderful World of Color and I much prefer the Color Version which I would be happy to hang on my wall.

Thank you for showing us your beautiful color photo.

If you are showcasing the "days gone by" or the "abandoned" feel these images could portray, the B&W is a clear winner!
The color calls to me in a different way. As though its going to be refurbished, or something like that....
Both have distinct qualities in my opinion! The B&W is my final answer though!
Great shot!

Yes...

I like the color,
but the B&W has a nostalgic look.
I think if I was going to hang it I would hang the B&W...

I agree
