I have an a99II that I love.
I use my Tamron 28 to 300 lens just about all the time.
I do have a nice wide angle lens also.
I've had my a99II for a number of years now.
My last trip was a cruise to Hawaii.
Before that it was Switzerland and Northern Italy.
We've also been all over Europe and the Caribbean Islands.
Next week we will be visiting friends in Tampa.
Seems that most people complain about weight.
You go have fun.
I'm 82 years old and it hasn't bothered me.
Admitted the camera has some weight but I bought a soft wide neck trap and have never had a problem.
Three or four spare batteries

Thanks. That is just what I wanted to hear! So many people have complained about size and weight, and although smaller cameras are competent, there is nothing like the satisfaction of looking at a full frame image, properly exposed!

Although I haven't booked it yet, I'm planning on Switzerland after France next summer with my a99ii - birthday in Paris - (France ends on one day and Switzerland starts the next) What lens(es) did you bring. I'll probably only be able to bring one suitcase and one carry-on. I have a harness that, for me, saves me big neck-and-back-aches.

If your going by your personal car, take your stuff, if your own a cruise or group tour, trust me on this, only take your Olympus.
That was the answer I was afraid of, but there are other opinions. The only important answer at the end of the day is if on tour, my wife hits me up for carrying the gear!
Some people travel with suitcases, some with back packs and some with cameras.
Just having some fun.

What is the nature of your travelling? If you're going to walk/hike miles then stick with the Oly and a 14-150 at around 700gms. If you're going to be travelling by car/coach/train/boat then the Sony with 24-240 which is about 1800gms. Size of the camera is not an issue - weight can be

Look into a fellow on the WEB named Gary L. Friedman.
He writes books just about every Sony Camera that's been out.
His books are a real Encyclopedia of more then the Sony MGF's can show you.
could ever write.
His books are not very expensive and contain a gold mine if information.
He has books on both the a99 and the a99II.
I think you would worship it if you had one.
I bought mine on a disk in .PDF format so I can read it on my monitor.

I have his a99ii book. Has every option explained and then some. Not a skinny book by any means - 609 pp plus index. Besides functions it also has tips on how to shoot different type of scenes. If you buy his book and send in the receipt he'll send you the PDF. The softcover book is in B/W, but the PDF is in color and has (most) the websites mentioned in his book as hotlinks, which is cool because you can read an article on the laptop and then go right to the video or gallery :)

Seriously?... Your having a gas attack, so your asking people if you can travel with a Sony A99, something you can easily check yourself!

Travel with it
Have a spare battery and charger when you travel
Maybe 2 of each w/ an extra battery thrown in. Every time I hand it to someone to take a shot of us they remark on how heavy it is. It does have some heft but, hey, man up & carry it. Get a shoulder sling & toss the neck strap though.

When you go to Switzerland plan on finding great shots just any way you point the camera.
On my a99II I only take my Tamron 28 to 300.
My wife & I take one suitcase each and the camera equipment go in our backpacks and go under the seat on the plane.
Going out of the country we usually take 1 suitcase each.
Wide neck straps seem to be comfortable for us.
You have a great trip

I'll have to think about renting one. I can always use CIZ on my 24-105, plus, I'd get a constant f/4 vs 3.5-6.3. I've seen one or two You-Tube videos of vacations using the 24-105 and they don't look bad. I'd already be paying about $6k for the trips, combining the two. Plus extra excursions, plus souvenirs, plus..... I know the rental fee would be peanuts compared to the total trip cost, but If I'm already going to be shelling out 1/2 a year's net income on a vacation (I'm a school bus monitor), I need to at least try to save money when I can. I took an FZ-200 to Israel with me in '16 and wasn't particularly enamored with it, although it did give me a wall-hanger or two. When I retire in 9-12 yrs, watch out world - here I come :)
