I am enjoying a GAS attack with my new used Sony A99, and a bevy of Minolta, Tamron, and Sigma lenses that I bough reasonably cheap. Usually I go to my Olympus OMD-EM-5ll for travel. But the possibility of having a full frame sensor for travel is alluring. Have any of you travelled with an A99, and what issues arose?

Why wouldn’t you be able to travel with it?

I'm anticipating bringing my used a99ii (bought last year) to France and Switzerland next summer :) I brought a used Panasonic FZ-200 with me to Israel in 2016, but was, for the most part, unsatisfied with the camera (size and IQ). The a99ii is my first f/f digital camera...a bit heavier than my a77, but I think it would be worth the effort to take it. I'm going to Oshkosh this summer and will give it a good workout and really see if I want to lug it around for 3 weeks!! My trip to Spain was cancelled last year, and I nixed my trip to Ireland this year, so I'm going to make up for it in 2022. Let me know your experience as well.

Only if you treat it to a moonlight champagne induced coma...

I am an Oly shooter using the exact same camera that you use. But, I’d the trip is not a hiking trip or something you need to keep things light, bring the beast! I’m this hobby is for fun. Want to shoot full frame, Is being it. I can say that when I carry my silver OMD em5 mii women fawn over me and men want to be me. Joking aside. Being it. And have fun.

If your going by your personal car, take your stuff, if your own a cruise or group tour, trust me on this, only take your Olympus.

It’s not an SLR, so one spare battery is a bit short. I’d carry three or four including the in-camera battery.

When I go on vacation I take the a99ii with motor drive along with extra batteries and two lenses, a 28 - 105 and a 100 - 400 plus filters. Maybe the Vello Shutter Boss II Remote. This is all l really need for this camera what ever is in the camera bag goes with it basically. Plus my monopod and or tripod possibly a flash if needed.

Are you talking domestic with a vehicle? When I go next year to Europe (COVID-willing), I don't think (unless I leave 1/2 of my clothes at home) I can take more than one lens and my a99ii due to baggage limits. What do you take on a plane/bus/train? Just curious.

Yes, you hit it right on the nose. I am a cruise person, and I have always taken either an RX10, an APS-C, or M4/3 sized body. But the potential to shoot foreign landscapes and buildings with the full frame, and less expensive lenses has me hoping I can pull it off. I am thinking of taking a Sigma 12-24, Minolta 28-135, and possibly a Tamron 70-300, obviously all "A" mount. I'm usually skeptical of folks who write these kind of posts, but I am hoping that someone has experience doing this and whether the problems outweighed the opportunities and full frame enjoyment?

"I'm in love with Sony A99 - Can I travel with it?" This is a type of question that upsets me, no further info! Sometimes I think people posts to brag regarding their equipment or is bored at home and post this just to get some reaction! That is a great piece of camera so use it when ever possible! I'm now retired and can no longer invest in "fancy" cameras but I know my gear , love them and use them. Travel? No mention of means or where! A few years ago I hiked a mountain for three nights, had a backback stuffed with food, two sets of clothing - cool and warm - a jacket and raincoat. Plus a small light tent, sleeping bag and one of those so called self inflating mattresses. One camera body HAD to go with and one close-up lens and a short zoom plus spare battery! Half way the first day I could feel the weight and at the end of the trail I took 20plus photos and no close-up and only used 1 battery! During 2016 and 18 I went solo on a month trip into the very remote Namibia in my own vehicle with all my lenses, tripod plus mono and all camera bodies with laptop and three USB drives. Main camera body the battery lasted three days and I could charge it inside the vehicle at any time. Took thousands of photos. Around 2014 our family went oversees and I took one body, three lenses and spare battery which I never used as I charged the camera battery every night in the hotel and only used one lens! Came home with under a hundred photos and never used the strobe as well. So, the moral of my story: all depends on your mode of transport, region and nature of your visit! Currently planning for a three month solo trip again to far northern Namibia via my own vehicle and the reason: explore, photograph and experience!
