Hi, I set my camera to aperature priority and the ISO to 100 to reduce noise. Use a tripod with a cable release and let the camera take care of the exposure time. Hope this helps.

'Night Shots' is about as descriptive as 'Day Shots'.

If you are taking pictures outdoors, at night of family & friends. First you will need a flashgun, and a fairly powerful one at that because outdoors you'll lose two stops immediately. If you're going to attempt this without flash you will need to wind the ISO setting very high and risk the resultant noise, and you'll still be using large apertures.

If you're shooting traffic at night (to get traffic tails). You must have a tripod because your exposure times will be very long. Equally, if you're doing fireworks you'll be doing long exposures and must have a tripod. The same applies to Star Trails.

Give us some more details of what you're trying to do and I'm sure you'll get more helpful responses.

...Just general night shots of anything with lights ... buildings, traffic etc.. I have a pretty decent tripod and a remote for the camera ... My attempts so far have resulted in lots of noise and distorted colours .. You mention the "star trails"... I would be interested in this too...

Looking at your photos, I'd say you have it down pat and don't need any advice. And you might actually be a good source of advice.
