A few comments re 'old' cards.
Now I am an older fellow. The best tool I have bought (a few years back) was a Brother labeling machine. I use 9mm and 12mm wide labels. I have found that the labeling material is thin enough that it can be used on an SD card and still fit comfortably in the camera and the card reader. Used for the date and maybe a sequence number.
Also works great on power tool batteries so you know how old they are. Also works well on camera batteries. If you use a 9mm wide tape with 2 lines of text you can get an amazing amount of stuff on there (date, warranty expires, seq #, where purchased, and other things).
I no longer have to remember (or forget) stuff. And for all those who are going to say what about if it comes off inside the camera ? Been 10 years now and so far haven't had one peel off. They do come off a bit if used on plastic storage boxes that are stacked one on top of the other but even this is not important because I also stick a label on the side. Labels come in multiple colours.
Until you have a labeler you have no idea how much time and money it has saved. Especially if your memory is a bit on the flaky side.

I have as SD card reader built into my computer. Yesterday, I took the card out of my camera, inserted it in the slot on the computer, and dowloaded the photos to my computer. As I was inserting the card back into the camera, somehow, I noticed that the card appeared to be separating into two halves. Sure enough, I checked it, and it was separating. I don't know when it started separating, but I was thinking, it would be a shame to go out on a photo shoot, take photos all day long, and find out the card was defective. Now, yes, I have dual card slots, and I can code the second card slot as backup, but, still, I will, every time I remove the card from my camera, give it a careful visual inspection before reinserting it into the camera.

Guilt by association... Card Reader built into my computer... could be the camera that did it ... or more likely a problem with the card during manufacture.

Without question toss the card, but have fun directing and photographing to share with UHH people.

"but, still, I will, every time I remove the card from my camera, give it a careful visual inspection before reinserting it into the camera" Really! Defective is defective and SD cards are reasonably priced or can be returned to the manufacturer QAQC [quality] department, they would like to do a failure analysis and would perhaps send you a new card.

Wearing out the connector on your camera is highly unlikely. Those connectors are rated for many thousands of actuations. Unless you are not careful with the cable, you should have no problem transferring via cable.

That is one of the 2 reasons I switched to Sony tough. The other is not having write protect tab.
I hope they are better & not just "hype".

I had a card split taking it out of the plastic case. Got it replaced for free.
I would always use a card reader not cable from camera. Good you downloaded photos and was successful.

Methylene Chloride, fuses some plastic, like a weld. One tiny drop on the seam and capillary action. Not trying to be a smart a-- here just I have used it on many plastics. So I wonder myself if this will work.

Don't know if I'd glue it.
Some <non-plastic> glues will dry out and flake off over time.
Some plastics do not let glues stick to them well.
I'd retire the card and open it.
(After it has been unloaded.)

I wouldn't think the card would be bad-I would just glue the case back together and try it out.
Thoughts?

Why take risk of losing photos, for under $20 but a new San disk 64 card. for replacement wouldn't split it either

AS far as I am concerned, this is the common sense approach. We spend thousands of dollars on our cameras and lenses so why risk having a problem. Just toss the split card and buy a new one. They are inexpensive, especially 32 gb cards.

I had a pair of Sandisk cards do the same thing. The best part is they have a lifetime warranty. So I contacted Sandisk, they asked for pictures, and 3 days later I had a pair of brand new cards.

Good to know!

I have a LEXAR 64GB xqd card that split at the seams. I superglued it. I had to smooth the seam afterwards as it was slightly raised from the surplus glue and was too tight in the camera slot. It has held up for daily use for at least a year now. My 2 other cards are Sony XQDs and they have had no problems.
